I was in love for about 15 seconds.... http://www.hqmilton.com/watches/1961-omega-speedmaster-2998-6-pre-moon-321 Before the wheels started turning and @ChicagoFrog and I realized... - replaced chrono hand - relumed hour/min hands (admittedly a great relume job that is disclosed) - leaf subdial hands are incorrect - wrong crown (I think, not entirely sure on this one) The dial lume is fantastic, if original, and makes up for a lot, as does the good condition bezel. Replacement hands for the subdials aren't terribly hard to find but I think the center chrono hand is. I'll let you all decide on the dial lume, it seems a bit shiny to me but I'll defer to the experts. 30K might be appropriate if the parts were original but I'm sure this will sell. Cheers -- A.
Honestly .... I don't know what good looks like on these anymore. I own a just ok 2998-6 and am advised to leave mine alone. Personally I'd take original hands and a bit roached out over this. It's not a bad watch but 30k? Wrong crown, Chrono Hand, sub... nice bezel and dial. Too lazy tonight to pull out MWO on the sn. Assume HQM are not a bunch of dirt balls. Looks to me like it's been built up. Too nice ... not an authority though.
HQM are good people. They really know the vintage rolex market and tend to sell fast at good prices. They do not really understand speedmasters, and my guess is that they are learning. This is not an attractive watch to me but it will sell. The relume is too orange, too smooth. The leaf hands are new, the bezel is nothing special.
Good look @ahantel .... that said ... This will certainly attract someone who's been looking for a nice one, who also knows the HQ crew has a great rep Too high for those like me who remember when good examples cost LESS and waiting for [ normal ] prices to return (which will also likely never be haha)
I'd agree too, mainly because the hands match the dial so perfectly. I wonder how we would view it if the hands were more original.
Nice speedy and hard to get...And Jacek from HQ is a great guy to deal with according my own experience... Good luck if you decide to pull the trigger..
Price marked down $3k today. https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/l3w8773e/1961-omega-speedmaster-2998-6-pre-moon-321-8131
Interesting that HQM have over 30 Omegas active for sale today. Last year they had perhaps 4. This watch is smelly. Too much lume work I think
