Is there an Omega Boutique nearby? Or an AD with an in house watchmaker? Either one would more likely be able to tell you if you have a problem, than anyone here.

Service the watch... 2531.80 has the 1120 caliber - basically Eta 2892-2, which is easy to service...

Well, it ran for 48 hours after winding and with very little shaking. It still makes an audible gear noise when winding and even when screwing the crown in, but I guess it is ok. Once life opens back up I may have someone look at it for peace of mind.

A lot happens in the auto wind mechanism when you wind your watch manually. The rate at which a watch winds during auto winding means that winding occurs very slowly. So the auto wind system functions without making a sound. If you put your auto wind watch on, totally run down, it may take a full 12 to 16 hours for the watch to wind fully. It depends on your level of activity. However, if your automatic wind watch is totally run down, and you wind it fully, manually, what takes 12 to 16 hours to happen on your wrist, happens in a minute or so when you wind it manually. You WILL hear stuff happening when you wind manually. I’ll say that you don’t have a problem.

Break in? No. Please read my post again. What you are describing is typical of most if not all automatic wind watches.

Sorry for the jumbled response earlier, tried to reply while wrangling a toddler. I get what you are saying. I just read other descriptions of this model having a very smooth feel and almost whirring sound, which is what mine used to have before service, and now it is a grinding sound and feel.

You have an authorized dealer locally who is probably closed. At your first opportunity, why not stop in to the AD and manually wind some watches in his inventory? Listen to the sounds the watches make as you wind them.

Perhaps you weren’t holding the watch to you ear as you wound it, before the repair. If you are doing that since the repair, then don’t. If you aren’t reassured by what you read here, then send the watch back to Omega when things return to normal.

Both my 2892A2 movements wind like butter. I'm suspicious that something didn't get assembled correctly.

If it ran for 48 hours after you wound it and after reading the previous comments and your still not entirely sure/happy with it then I think the only thing you can do is send it back once things return to normal.
