    Hi fellow Omega fans,

First time poster here. I'm looking for some advice as I'm unsure which watch to go with.
I currently own the 2254.50 SMP as well as a few Speedmasters. An opportunity has come up for me to buy an 8500 Planet Ocean, but I'd have to let go of the 2254.50 to help fund the PO. My 2254.50 is my daily watch and I will miss it if I let it go, it's so thin and sleek and I love the sword hands, not to mention the lume is phenomenal. It currently gains no time. The PO I'm looking at is pre-owned and the current owner states that it is running at +1/-1 sec/day depending on it's resting position. The PO also comes on rubber and I am a bracelet guy, I'm not sure how hard it is to find a 20mm bracelet for the 8500 PO, but I would plan on buying one eventually.

In your opinions is the PO considered superior and would I be obtaining a substantially better watch in the process?

I'm sure these watches need no introduction, but I'll include some photos of the watches in question:

I've owned both, and while I prefer the PO for design and the added power reserve, if you like the thin case of the 2254 you may find the PO too thick. If you do decide to get a PO, why "settle" for one on rubber if you're a bracelet guy? There are usually several FS at any given time on the various watch fora or eBay, among other sources. You could find a used bracelet but the cheaper option is usually to get one with bracelet. Good luck!

    Thanks for your input Andy,
I guess I'm not settling.. All my watches in my current rotation are on a bracelet and I thought the rubber would give my collection some versatility. I also think I'm going to go the route of buying an OEM bracelet down the road. The other reason I'm going for this watch is because it's in near perfect condition at a good price.

The forum usually tries to enable but from you words it sounds like you have no reason to get the PO other than the fact that it's there. You clearly like your SMP better.

Haha what an anomaly! It's not so much that I like the SMP better, it's just all I know.
I'm just unsure if the jump up to the PO is worth it, or if I shouldn't risk it and stick with my SMP.

For what it's worth, my vote is to stay with the 2254.50.

I've not owned a PO, but would not give up my Seamaster (2220.80) for the PO. Just me. If I had to give up the Seamaster for another watch, it would be the Submariner, 114060. Again, just me.

I own the 2254 but I'm selling it to a member. I had an 8500 ti but it was to thick so I sold it.

Not sure I'm much help with your question, but if you don't mind the thickness the PO is just awesome. I really wish the thickness was not an issue.

In my view the 2254500, or even the 29545091 on rubber is a classic Omega. I service ton of these and have often thought about picking one up. If you like thin dive watches, this fits the bill perfectly IMO. It's much nicer than even the 2500 PO in my view, and has a solid movement as you know as an owner.

My vote would be to keep the 22545000.

    Cheers, Al
