Hi all

As per usual I was perusing the internet for watches and spotted this beauty for sale:

A 222101/1

Coincidentally the exact same watch has been recently sold by Shuck the Oyster.

The original sales ad states or can be easily undestood as all the hands are original. I quote:"The original dial is very clean and clear, showing original tritium luminous mass. Same goes for the hands. "

I personally have not seen that type of chronohand on my searches and lurkings. I love look of the brushed finish on the dial and the Martel movements are a plus on these. If that were original chrono hand I might consider making an offer on this.

P.s. how hard on a scale : "1-to-build an orbital class rocket" would sourcing a "correct" chronohand be?

I am going to go with an 8.

Hmmm , so not that hard considering the other extreme of that difficulty scale 😜.

So I take it that also in your opinion that chrono hand is a replacement?

yes. That is a 281 IIRC ? They seem a bit harder to find than 285 and the like, although if the current hand has a tube size that fits correctly, you might be able to take a hand from another caliber and swap the tube. Or just keep a patient eye out for a 281...

The chrono minute hand Reset looks wrong in the first pic but ok in the others, maybe just double check it’s all working correctly

Thanks for the input. Yes its a UG 281.

Damn it, I think my lack of know-how will not enable to do that and I am somewhat certain my watchmakers are not keen on tinkering with tubeswitching and such.

That is a very good looking combination even with the wrong chronohand. I'll do some research to see how often those 281's popup and the possibility of harvesting a correct chronohand.

Edit: just like you mentioned, already found a correct looking chrono hand but for the 285. Found a few correct chronohands on 281's but their still attached to perfectly good looking watches 😬.

Maybe I'll just sit around and hope that somebody snaggs that. In my opinion 5100 USD + VAT(EU) is quite alot for a "find the correct hand"-project watch.

222101's are 281 powered 227XX are V72 or caliber 130 powered. That hand is wrong but it is a really nice example of a 222101. Very difficult to find in that condition ! Hand will be difficult to find but not impossible. I actually think it is worth a punt.

😀

I had a 222101/1 which was one of the better examples I have seen (unpolished case, very nice condition overall). I sold it this year for quite a bit more than the asking price on the one in this thread. I do miss it.

there's a quite nice 22705 for sale here in the private sales section (not me), worth considering if you are not set on the textured dial....
