2055.80 vs 2255.80?

Hello all! I've spent most of my time on OF on the vintage forum so I hope this is the correct space for my question. I just made a couple of impulse buys on an online auction (2055.80 & Great White GMT) and while researching the 2055 I noticed that there are exponentially more 2255's in the marketplace than 2055's. Can you guys explain the gap in availability? Is it a popularity thing that owners just aren't parting with the "Bond Bracelet" or a population difference?
Was there a significant price difference between the bracelets back in the day?

2232.80.00 - 41mm titanium w/Speedmaster bracelet
2231.80.00 - 41mm titanium w/Seamaster bracelet
2055.80.00 - 41mm stainless w/Seamaster bracelet
2255.80.00 - 41mm stainless w/Speedmaster bracelet

And these are just the full-sized automatic references. Not sure what the 2055.80 and Great White GMT have to do with each other. As far as Bond vs. Speedmaster bracelet, I think more were released with the latter than the former.

Just that they were bought together I forgot the "&". (edited)
So you think it was Omega themselves regulating the output rather than the market?

I just meant that Seamaster style (triangle 12 o'clock marker, rectangular indices, sword hands, etc.) was usually (only?) found on a Speedmaster style bracelet. It might only be the electric blue models that had a Bond option.

The Seamaster bracelet models are definitely less common and are the alternate option while the Speedmaster bracelets are far more common for sword hand Seamaster pro models. It may appear otherwise just from listings at a specific point in time but that’s how it is overall.

I wrote about the 2254.50 family and variants here which is pretty similar. https://stories.omegaforums.net/sea...-family-british-army-sas-sfc-limited-edition/

Thank you for the reply and compliments on the article! So, as I suspected it is a population thing in that the numbers available reflect the differential. I'm still curious as to whether the "Speedy" bracelet was more popular with the public in general over the "Bond" or was it a marketing/production thing from Omega?

Difficult to know, it seems that the Bond bracelet version may have been limited to certain markets. I think the US and Asia got it but it doesn’t appear on my 2001 UK price list and I never saw one in a UK jeweller. Whatever the cause, there are very few true 2054.50 and 2055.80s out there. And several described as such are in fact bracelet swaps of the Speedy bracelet versions. Does yours have cards that definitively identify it a 2055.80?

The Bond bracelet version was offered for only a couple of years, I think. From 1998 -2000, maybe 2001. Then it came on the same Speedmaster style bracelet as the other sword standard Seamaster models until at least 2005.

A lot of people also switched out bracelets from the Bond style to the Speedmaster to have the bigger clasp and a taper. I recall back in the days, it was a popular mod because the Bond bracelet wasn’t as popular.

Those facts probably explain most of the difference you see.

As far as I can tell, the Bond bracelet is less popular and more polarizing than the Speedmaster style bracelet. I like the Speedy bracelet more myself.

Well there you go I guess. I've always liked the Bond on any SMP. Like they say chocolate and vanilla!
