New to this forum and not sure if i have posted in the correct area apologies in advance for this.

I visited the manchester UK omega boutique store and asked about prices on servicing, went ahead at 655 or there abouts a week or so later i get a call from them to say it needs to be sent off to Switzerland for its service, I asked if something was noted when the watch was opened for it go there but the said it had not been opened. They also said if i did not want to go ahead woth the cost of service when Switzerland cost it then I will have to pay £75 for it to be returned.

I do know one area which Omega UK cannot do which is to re plate the rhodium on the casing but then they would just replace the case i suppose so not sure why it neds to go Swiss, anyone here had the same happen to them and what cost am i looking to be hit with, the watch is in mint condition runs perfectly keeping time and the split seconds work flawlessly.

Appreciate the help you can pass on.

Thanks

Have they said it will be more expensive, or do you just not want it sent to Switzerland?

Bear in mind that the initial price quoted in store is just that, a quote...

They said Switzerland will let them knlw of the cost for the full service and in turn let me know, my budget was £1000 for this and the omega seamaster quartz which has come in at just under £400, no issues with it being in Switzerland just hope they dont go crazy with the cost of servicing. I also have a Breitling superocean heritage 46 non chrono and cost for servicing is just under 800 with a years warranty. Dont really wear them much and could not justify the cost to service them but yrs later i have decoded to go for it and let them get spruced up to be sat in their boxes.

Thanks for the replies.

From another thread talking about servicing these watches: https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-split-second-chronograph-some-advice-please.44229/

Omega's policy is to have these sent back to the factory in most cases...from the technical guide for the Cal. 3600...

"Due to the complexity of the product and the need for special tools, work on the watch is strictly forbidden (exception: rate adjustments). Watches showing signs of a technical defect must be returned to the Omega after-sales service department. The only exception to this is service centers with specialists trained by Omega, and in possession of the special tools required."

Cheers, Al

Thanks - saves me typing it out again! 👍

I think in all the years I've been servicing Omegas, I've only ever been asked to service one of these. To make the investment in training and tools to service this movement, when I'll probably never be asked to service another, just doesn't make sense. I suspect it's not a watch that the local service centers see often either, so it just makes more sense to send it to Bienne, where I suspect the majority of these go for service.

If it's just in need of a normal service - quote +/- 20% maximum I would think.

Original qupte was for 655 for a full service, plus the quartz seamaster at 400, I hope they can do something with the rhodium plating or will they just replace the whole casing as over the yrs the rhodium has pitted if you zoom in on a camera lens. There was a company down south when i enquired a few months back if they could rhodium plate a watch case they said yes but would have to send in just the case as they would not specialists just had the expertise in plating, circa 45 they were charging.
I will have to hope for the best and hope in total i dont have to shell out too much £1k was my budget.

So is this a watch you just bought? If so, buying what is certainly a complicated watch, with case issues, and having a budget of 600 for the service and repairs may be a tad unrealistic.

That’s correct the split chronograph need to be sent to Bienne ( even in OB they are not allowed to touch it ) the price is the same as other chronograph ( 321 ,861) , now I made in an authorized Omega repair center a full rev for about 600 chf and all went perfectly this may save you 200 to 300 £ from the Omega price.

cheers from my ....... pre prototype don’t know even how to call them 😀)))
