The first is near NOS with original strap, buckle, papers and box. The second near mint with no strap or buckle but with papers and box.
That second one is amazing, basically the mint condition version of my the Constellation Piepan my father wears.
They look beautiful! Nice pick up MSN!! Question from a Connie Noob-are the crowns original? They certainly fit the watches, and the pics show the details that I have not noticed before.
Beautiful examples for sure! Have you managed to find any collectable watches in such exceptional condition recently or in your experience is that now a thing of the past? I now that I personally am buying less and less watches per year due to quality of supply issues.
Yes you still find them even today. One just has to take a bit more risk as some of these very nice examples are not well photographed. Also as has been mentioned here before, many nice vintage watches change hands without ever hitting the open market. I regularly get offered watches to buy - most of these I am not interested in but once in a while a gem comes along this way.
So does this mean you don't pay "top dollar" for these examples? Or do some gems come along that you just can't turn down?
Price-Condition/originality ratio: 1:1 Fully valued - buy if desired. 1:2 Great value - buy if fits your collecting philosophy. 1:3 Phenomenal value - buy all day even sunday even if it doesn't fir your collecting philosophy. 2:1 Poor value - buy only if you really must have it. 3:1 Vastly overpriced - buy only if you have more money than sense. Roughly what my collection is composed off (at the time of purchase): 50% of 1:2 or 1:3 watches 40% of 1:1 watches 10% of 2:1 or 3:1 watches A lot of that final 10% came early on - tax I paid as I learned the ropes.
Nice. That's a fair ratio. I guess mine (at the moment..) have been mostly 1:1 and 1:2's.... The 3:1's will follow later!
I think if you're getting most of your watches at 1:1 and 1:2 you're doing ok. With quality vintage omegas, many of those 1:1 watches will start looking like 1:2 watches down the road. I think the nicest vintage pieces in any collection are at the time of purchase 1:1 to 2:1 watches in that ballpark.
I actually like the first one better. But it's like choosing between Jessica Alba and Sofia Vergara. Can't lose either way. gatorcap
No debate whatsoever on Jessica Alba. I've seen her in a dress that looked like an old tabel cloth and she made it sexy. Sofia Vergara though - if she had a mute button it then I could see it. After a half hour or so it would remind me too much of Charo.
