Have a local trying to sell me a watch:

Serviced 2021
Crystals seals push buttons replaced
291 amp
-2 / -3 seconds a day
No bracelet
Chrono resets zero
Movement is 861 (18 jewels)
Super luminova dial
3590.50. 145 0022 /3450022
No box

I'm guessing this is a watch from the mid 90's with the super luminova and 18 jewels but a reference number of 3590.50?

What do you guys think? Do you think it checks out?

Do you have pictures of the sides? Need to make sure they didn't polish the lugs during the service.

You can get a 3590.50 with yellow tritium for $4,000 - $4,500. In my opinion, a much nicer looking watch.

You can also get a new or nearly new 3861 for $5-$6k.

That being said, $3,500 for a serviced Speedy is a good price. If you like the looks of the superluminova, it’s a solid watch.

No bracelet though? My advice is to make sure you are getting exactly what you want, even if it’s a bit more money.

It’s more likely a 3570.50. No 3590 had SL lume. Check the serial on ilovemyspeedmaster.com. If it’s pre 1996, the dial has been replaced.

It’s a nice watch but for me personally, I would step up and get a new or lightly used 3861 or go with a 3590.50 with yellow tritium lume.

I would also definitely get one that comes with a bracelet.

Dial is definitely post 1999. Movement is post 1991. So no clues from the pictures.

Price as any modern luminova dial watch. 20-30 years down the road it will just be a luminova watch.

Even if it’s an earlier piece with a replacement dial I’d value the same as these will never be collectible as they went decades with zero changes. Even if it’s a replacement dial the value is the same as it could be worth slightly more if it’s pre 1999 and you source a correct tritium dial and hands.

Based on that serial number, I think it’s a 3570.50 that was originally tritium but now has a Luminova (service replacement) dial and handset. I have one from the same time period (late 1996) that still has the original tritium dial/handset. I’m too lazy to get up and go check my serial number but I think it’s also 4835xxxx. Like this one, mine is also an 18 jewel cal 861.

The 18th jewel appeared around 1988/89 and it wasn’t untill 91 that the bridge was updated to say 18 jewels. This is shared on both Lemania and Omega branded versions of the movement.

Yeah, I only mentioned that to differentiate from 1861, which appeared later (and briefly) in these transitional 3570.50s. As it turns out, mine is actually 4834xxxx. October 1996, according to I Love My Speedmaster.

Fun fact the 18th jewel appears before the 1861 although that is a common misconception.

My 3590.50 from c. 1991 has 18 jewels but says "17 jewels" on the bridge. Kind of cool, right during the transition.

Yup my Lemania powered Sin 903 has the same 18th jewel but states 17.
