Hey guys CarbonConcepts here. I have a youtube channel where I review luxury vintage to modern watches. I ventured out and purchased my first Omega. Normally I don't buy watches without knowing information about them but I got this one at near scrap gold value. It's solid 14k gold as marked on the case. Let me know if anyone knows the model or estimated circa year along with its resale value. thanks for everyone's time. Have a wonderful Friday.
All the pertinent info needed would be on the movement and inside of caseback. You'll need someone competent to pop off the caseback.
Based on the "tab" I see to the rightt of your finger, I believe you can pop off the case-back with the back side of a butter knife without much trouble. However I would ask our "Uncle" if I'm right before you dig-in ;-)
Most likely a US market caliber 620/625 from the 1970s. Value is about what you paid, scrap, as these are not particularly desirable or collectable.
I would pop the back open but I'm still waiting for it in the mail. Ill let you all know once I receive it in the mail. So you are estimating 200-350 scrap. The seller told me the case without the mechanism weighs 16 grams. thanks for everyone's time
Your "Uncle" doesn't know sh*t from shinola most of the time. I once spent a good amount of time trying to pop the back off of a frontloader! In this case, however, I am pretty sure the back will pop right off. The little notch will help. Here are a few basics. http://www.watchstyle.com/tutorial-08.htm I fully agree with Norman on value, even the steampunk kids haven't warmed up to this style yet. Good luck, and a warm welcome to Omega forums!
thanks everyone for a warm welcome. Hopefully I can get a good review and still get my money out of this one. Thanks again for everyone's time. since I do reviews on YouTube what would the most desirable omega be. I'll get that one next to do a review on.
If it's the 600 series, not much, as these were small and used in a lot of watches, even some ladies and a ton of these cases were melted for scrap. Let's see what we've got before a proper assessment can be made, but 16 grams of 14k equals about $325, so you shouldn't lose money. "The conversion factor for weight units ounces to grams is 28.3495231. If the conversion is from troy ounces (for precious metals, gold, jewellery etc), it is 31.1034768." (off the internet and they never lie!) 14k is about 58.5% pure gold. My apologies if this is unnecessary info.
We need some parameters, the most valuable? (Buzz Aldrin's Speedmaster), the most popular?, the rarest? "Most desirable" is subjective, some would say Miley Cyrus while I am partial to Hannah Ferguson right now!
"Most desirable" is subjective, some would say Miley Cyrus while I am partial to Hannah Ferguson right now! Now I know for sure why your my "Uncle Buck" ;-)
Hi Carbon. If a watch , any watch from any watch maker ... Is an Automatic movement it will always have a Semi disc over the main workings of the movement ... This is called a Rotor which spins and winds the movement as you wear the watch. Heres a photo of what it will look like . All the best with future buys
