For sale at £6,750 net to me.

I offer for sale my Rolex Submariner 16800 which I previously put up for trade on the 04/03/22. I am in the Manchester/Yorkshire area of the UK.

My watch was originally listed as trade. I have therefore made changes to my advert rather than create a new listing. Mods - I hope this is OK.

My sales are few and far between on the OF:

I have been on the VRF since 1999 but had to start again with a new account when the forum transferred platform. My profile is here:

I have owned this watch for a number of years. The whole watch is what I would describe (in used car vernacular) as honest. It had been very well used and although I am no expert I have no obvious to me reason to believe that it is not in its original configuration but I am no expert in the minutiae of detail. When I bough this I cleaned the DNA (of which there was plenty) from it and I had it resealed and pressure tested by Bill Rice in 2016-2017. I have had some life changing events in the meantime and unfortunately no longer possess the paperwork for this. The watch did not need a service at the time but given the passage of time it would now make sense to do so if intended as a daily wearer. While no issues that I can detect I am therefore selling as service required. I timed the watch over 24 hours in a stationary position, and it lost about 4 seconds. This may of course vary with use and position. My original plan was to source a replacement bracelet, have it serviced and use it as a daily wearer. This did not happen and in total I have not worn it for more than a week. It has lots of character and a warm look to the eye.

Serial number – 71432XX This could place it in 1981 or 1982. It would make a great birth year watch!!!!

Dial – Matte dial with aging to the tritium markers as pictured. There are some marks on the dial which I have found impossible to catch with a camera. The main one is between the number 1 marker and the top right hand of the letter X. I do not find that these detract from the overall pleasing appearance of the dial with its coffee-coloured markers.

Hands – Tritium hands which depending on the light are slightly darker than the markers on the dial. The second hand is rusty. This IS NOT water damage. This does appear to be a trait of some of these watches from around this era. You can see plenty of examples if you google “16800 rusty second hand”.

Bracelet – 93150 with G (1982) clasp code. The bracelet is worn as you can see and either needs refurbishing or a replacement finding and putting away for safe keeping. It is however functional, and I have no reason to think this is not original to the watch.

Insert – With wear and marks as pictured. The lume pip is nicely aged and the insert has some corrosion at the bottom of the triangle at 12.

Case – There are marks and wear on the case. I suspect that it has been polished in its life but overall, the condition is commensurate with the wear on the bracelet and the look and feel of the rest of the watch.

The watch winds as it should both automatically and manually, the date changes over as it should, resets manually without issue and there is no undue noise from the rotor. The crown screws down tight. With a little TLC this will make an eye-catching daily wearer. It has a warm glow to it and the charm of an older watch with the bomb proof reliability and serviceability that comes with this model.

All the pictures are in natural light and I have used two different cameras. I have not applied any filters.

    Thank you for looking.
