Hoping to get the views of the Omega blackbelts about this little number...

The dealer I visited dates it to 1980 (no box no papers) and says the dial and hands are original. I could be wrong, but the hands (and maybe the dial too) look too pale. Would you expect a watch that's 30+ years old to be more patinated than this? Or am I too cynical?

Any thoughts welcome - thanks in advance...

Bezel with the tall letters looks like a correct 70's/80's version, as does the dial (although I'm not up on the intricacies of the various fonts which may date the dial more accurately). The hands do look very white and possibly newer, but then again, the watch looks very good to me so it could be correct.

Have be you had it in the dark? How do the hands/dial glow?

Saying that, if that's the original bracelet, I think it would date the watch to the early/mid 90's. If it was a 1980 watch, it would have originally come with an 1171 or 1450 bracelet which looks different.

This would explain why it's in such good nick.

I really want a 1980 birth-year Speedmaster, but I seem to be drawing a blank at the moment. Is going to a dealer the best way, and if so, is it an official Omega dealer, or just a generic vintage watch guy (like those in the Burlington Arcade in London)?

    Thanks very much guys.

Just for my own interest - @ speedy4ever, how are you dating the watch to the early 90s? Is it based on the bracelet or something else?

    Its a 1479 bracelet, if it was 80s it'd be a 1450 or 1171, the 1479 came out around 1991/1992 from memory

Based on bezel (between around 1990-95), dial (between around 1991-97) and bracelet 1479 (between around 1989-96)...

In which case, set yourself an avatar before the mods do it for you.

Don't go to the Burlington Arcade shop unless you want to pay a 100-300% premium over the actual value of a watch...

300% premium for a redialled and harshly polished watch. Last time I was up there I wandered in with a friend and for giggles asked how much for a v ordinary no date stainless Seamaster redial. My friend estimated a value of about £280. £2400. I was expecting shenanigans and still choked a bit.
