    Hi,

I have a few modern speedies but after much research and browsing the internet it's time to start looking at some older watches.

I'd like to move slowly into this and gain some more experience, so my first attempt is going to be for a 1973 Speedmaster proper.

But the question is; does anyone have any examples of confirmed serial ranges for 1973 with more specificity than 31/32XXXXXX ?

I've found a find 31.6's, a few 32,2's, but want to be really careful not to get a '72 or '74 and then repeat the process.

    Can anyone offer any advice?
    Thanks.

Uh oh.... afaik there is no certainty in speedy movt serial number year accuracy except you got Extract of Archive from Omega, or the original receipt is still available ( which come another debate about year of production vs year of sales).
Being with movt serial number alone, best you can get is +/- 1year of your year guess.

It's worth keeping in mind that the date when the watch was put together often differs from the date of sale.

A watch may well have a 71 caseback, put together in 72 and sold in 73.

Moonwatch Only states that the movement number range, for the 145.022-71, is 31.323xxx - 32.859xxx. Production years 1971-74. They are easy to differentiate from the later 145.022-74 and up series because the 71 was the last Speedie Pro with a stepped dial.

Be aware that there is a certain 145.022-71 Speedie for sale on EB which does not have a stepped dial. In several messages, the Seller was adamant that the dial is original. I think it is not.

I have never seen a moonwatch with a inner case back stamp 145.022-73.
    Has anyone else?
    Thanks Michael

Casebacks are 71 74 76 78 only. Then, no more dated casebacks

    Thanks folks! That's kinda where I am heading - 145.022-71, with a higher 31, or low 32.

I'm also watching out for the case back, and paying more attention to the movement number.

I've seen a few 31.s& 32.s with a 69 transitional caseback, with the prices hiked up as well.

Finding the 'right' watch isn't easy, is it?!
