Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a dress watch and I found what looks to be a good deal on Craigslist. This will be my first dress watch.

My concern is that I think the underside of the watch has been replaced. It looks like there's a personal engraving, it was probably given to an employee on their retirement.

    1) Is this watch real?
    2) If so, how does the replaced underside of the watch affect it's value?

I would pass. I don't like the crown or backside. There are better pieces out there.

Definitely real. It looks like it was given to an employee like you said, but value depends on what the case is made out of (solid or not).

I think I can get it for under $100. It's not gold.

Under $100 grab it, even if you don't want it

For that price I'd snag it.

ps - there is no "back" the whole case is one piece and the movement comes out the front with the dial & hands after the bezel & crystal is removed. ;)
