Hi there everyone, So lately I've been doing some research on vintage watches, and somehow Omegas always seemed to have that sense of class that I like, and so, being a terrible newbie to all this, I'm actually on the verge of spending some money on a 1970s ( as advertised on Chrono24 ) Omega Geneve watch. I live in Malaysia and this watch is from a dealer in the US, so yeah, this being my first watch, yeah I am somewhat a little apprehensive about this piece and I was wondering if I could get an opinion from the more experienced minds here. Its going for USD1299. The dealer did provide some clear photos, but not a pic of the crown or the mechanism inside. I have emailed him back for it. Also, the face... Did they make Geneves with this colour back then? And the font and Omega emblem, seems a little "cotemporary" rather than period-correct. Ive placed the link below. Plexiglass ? Omega had plexiglass on their watches back then? Sorry for these very amateur questions but yeah I might as well ask them here then elsewhere. Cheers. https://www.chrono24.com/en/omega/g...5--id4051006.htm?urlSubpath=/user/notepad.htm
This is the same seller as "vividlily" on eBay. Here's a random example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Seama...720732?hash=item3abc81b6dc:g:t~YAAOSwL7VWq3LaPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network The watches are often re-dialed, over-polished, and the movements are NOT serviced. Very shiny, but you can get much more honest examples for much less money---on eBay, the sales forum here, watchrecon.com, etc.
Better than a Genève, a Seamaster! Compare it to the original one you posted and then make a decision. Of course this one hasn't had the benefit of "miraculous photography", but it's just honest. https://omegaforums.net/threads/excellent-1966-seamaster-600-stainless-steel-ref-135-011.34938/
Too expensive for a Geneve https://omegaforums.net/threads/excellent-1966-seamaster-600-stainless-steel-ref-135-011.34938/ Jump on this and you will be the envy of anyone that misses it in the next day or so.
Really appreciate the prompt replies here! And thanks very much for the pointers about this piece... Im also deciding on this piece, it looks like it's been done up but the dial color is really pleasing. Always liked dark dials although the occasional (silver or lighter). Its an automatic 34 mm Rolex ( I have smal wrists, not sure about my size, should get it checked). Perhaps I should post this in the Rolex section? Don't wanna ruffle feathers guys. Here is a black dial for you at a good price https://omegaforums.net/threads/a-couple-of-nice-dresswatches-anyone.34954/#post-394283 Transfer photos from eBay as this thread will be useless once the eBay item is finished ( and I am not looking at others eBay stuff, I got my own rubbish to sift through on ebay)

that rolex is (visually) stunning... but i am always a bit alarmed when the outside is so much nicer than the movement pic...
