1970s Geneve - Yea/Nay, Help?

Hi!

Long time reader, now actually looking to dip my toes in with a first time purchase: lots to learn!

A seller has offered me what is described as a circa 1973 Omega Geneve for ~475USD. Ref 166.0190 with an Omega 1012 movement. Original crystal and dial claimed.

Notes recent dissembly, lubrication and cleaning of movement and attests to it still operating well and accurate timekeeping.

Crown is aftermarket of unknown origin. Strap is of course aftermarket.

I do like the look of the watch as a matter of aesthetic - obviously some wear and tear. I do not see any particular red flags on review of movement and dial, but also a bit clueless.

But grateful for more knowledgeable thoughts on dial and movement, overall condition and value?

Thanks again!

Last sold one on Ebay went for $390: https://www.ebay.com/itm/316267587579
ALSO with a goofy crown and a slightly worse looking movement.

Otherwise, that watch you have seems reasonable. Seems perhaps polished but not overly so. The dial/hands look at least correct, and the dial/hands/date wheel all look to be in lovely shape. Not sure I'd go $475 for it, but it isn't too far off.

Complete side note: as someone who is doing a bit of watch repair on the side, that spring on the regulator is TRIGGERING me hard/giving me nightmares. Unless there is some retention mechanism I'm missing, that looks like the sort of spring that is moments from spronging off into the ether.

That case is completely ruined.
Assuming you're talking about the top facet wear/top of lugs, that is DEFINITELY well worn (and through the plating), though it seems that is somewhat common on these (or am I missing something?). So not in GOOD shape by any means, but I'd be hard-pressed to call it ruined, it seems wearable.

Looks like the one that sold has similar case wear in that spot. Though looking closer, this is perhaps slightly worse shape. "Nice" ones seem to be asking for ~550-600 on ebay, so figure ~$500 in good shape though, so it would depend on the tolerance for that.

Personally, I don't consider gold-plated cases that are worn through to the base metal to be acceptable for wear. This is a parts watch, IMO, and not worth more than $100.

Yeah that case isn’t going to look good in real life

Thanks all. Helpful! Think I'll keep looking and spend a bit more for better condition. Thought reasonable on ask at first glance, and might still be for the right person at a different price, but I'd rather spend more for a piece that has better chance of holding up to use.
