    Hello OFers,

On offer today is a Seiko 6105-8000 diver's PROOF/PROOF watch from July 1969. The watch is in honest and unpolished original condition, with marks and scratches consistent with use. The ghosted bezel changes colour under different lighting conditions, which really gives the watch a lot of charm. It has not been serviced whilst in my posession, and while my watchmaker has adjusted and regulated it, a service (and waterproofing/pressure test for water use) is recommended before daily wear.

My asking price is $900USD including tracked and signed shipping from Australia. I prefer payment via PayPal Friends and Family, or Goods and Services if you cover the additional 3%. Bank wire is also possible, just ask and we can work something out. I do not accept refunds unless the watch is grossly misrepresented.

Case: The 41mm cushion/C-case retains the original brushed finishing on the top and underside, with a few scratches/marks present and a couple of small dents just below the crown on the right lug. The underside has one long scratch on the side opposite to the crown, and is otherwise quite clean.

The watch orginally came with the twist "LOCK" crown for the Seiko 6105-8100, which I replaced with the correct, non-screwdown 'SEIKO' marked crown for this model.

The caseback is marked "STAINLESS STEEL 6105-8000 WATER PROOF" along with a manufacture date of July 1969 from the serial number of 9704963. The caseback has some light swirls from use, and the engraving can still be felt when lightly touched. There is a service mark from 1994 present on the inside of it.

Bezel: The bezel has ghosted over time, and can take on various shades of blue, black and gray under different lighting conditions. It has one major scratch between the 40 and 50 markers, and some smaller noticeable ones at the 35 marker. There are some small dents between the 10 and 15 minute markers. There is an ink fade mark between the 20 and 30 minute markers. The lume pip is intact and has taken on a yellow hue over time.

Crystal: The low dome lipped Hardlex crystal has several scratches, most noticeably over the 1, 5 and 7 o clock markers, as well as some lighter ones near the 11 o clock marker. It otherwise is quite clear.

In my eyes, the combination of the ghosted bezel and the marks on it and the crystal really give the watch a distinct, tool watch look, and makes you wonder what stories it could tell. That said, I did order a non-original replacement Hardlex crystal that a US company makes with the intention of replacing it and can include this at cost price if desired.

Dial/Hands: The dial and hands have patinaed, with the dial lume giving off a pleasing yellowish-green appearance. The seconds hand has a similar colour, while the hours and minute hands are slightly off-white. The dial is has the distinct 'WATER 150M PROOF' moniker and has the text 'JAPAN 6105-8000T' at the bottom, as well as the beveled date window. I could not discern any significant marks on the dial.

Movement: The 6105A is a 17 jewel automatic and is non-hacking, which is correct for this model. The movement appears clean and is in running condition. The date rollover and quickset works fine, and all date numerals are present.

Lugs/Strap: I have included a lightly used 19mm reproduction waffle strap from UncleSeiko. The strap is quite soft and durable, and allows the watch to wear very comfortably on my 6.5" (17cm) wrist.

    Beautiful watch, GLWS.

For my education and because I’ve read Proof/Proof about a Willard twice in 24h, does this indentify a specific version of the watch or some kind of authenticity?

Thanks @Ferik, this model tended to be PROOF/PROOF throughout its production. The Willard version only had PROOF/PROOF in very early models before the mandantory change to RESIST.

Ah gotcha, this is the model without the inflated cushion that is the Willard?

This is one of the most thorough FS listings in OF history.

Bump on me just for that.

Also there is a proof/resist transitional version of this watch as the Willard was being released. Most transitional ones are dated in 1970.

This is a great watch and really honest and attractive at a very good price. Shouldn't last long at all, I own a few 6105s already and this is tempting!

Correct! This is the first iteration and, while the Willard is the most recognisable, these have been growing in value as @bigsom attests to.

@BenBagbag @sdre @bigsom thank you for the kind comments! The watch is now on hold; that was fast :>
