Hello all - inquiring is there any chance that the case and case back don’t match and was originally built that way? Or do they always match?

I am looking at one with a HF case and a CB cover.

We need more photos. Half the time when people ask questions like this, there is usually a mistaken assumption somewhere.

How do you know it’s an HF case? Are you sure it’s not a fake case?

Anything you’re trying to see specifically?

Yes whether the mid case is actually an HF case.

Why do you think the mid case is HF rather than CB. I know there are some differences but in my experience they’re not always easy to tell apart especially when the case has been polished.

I guess I don’t know for sure, I suppose it could be a cb. I was really just looking to see if the mid case and case back always match.

FWIW it was polished by omega hq in Switzerland if that makes a difference

The shape of it made me ask when I was trying to figure out what type of mid case and case back it had.

So what makes you think it’s an HF mid case?
Based on your guys responses, is that they could be mixed, is what I’m gathering

I haven’t had a chance to compare it to my CB, but it looks fine.

Even if it was mixed, It likely wouldn’t make a huge difference value wise (if concerned about that). It looks like you have a service dial and hands, which would put the value of the watch more in the league of a watchco, rather than an all original vintage SM300. Some discrepancies aren’t as notable with watchcos, because most are cobbled together from random parts.

You just need a service bezel to complete the look.

You started off saying you were looking at a sm300 with a CB back and HF mid case.

Actually, I started off with a question asking if they could be mixed bc I’m trying to figure out what I have. I’m not into jewelry or watches. Also I’m not interested in the “value” bc I’m not selling it. I am interested in the history of it tho.

My grandfather bought this one in ‘69. It’s mine now and had just got it back from service done by omega and so I have all the original parts in the bag. The bezel looks great. Don’t know why you’re all avoiding direct answer to the question and being sketchballs.

From what I can see, the serial will be 2711 and this is the last US batch, cal 550, build OCT68.
The case should be CB, including the CB case. The CB case back can be put on HF case, it fits, but it is not factory...HF case should have HF caseback and so on...
btw, another watch ruined by full Omega service. The polishing job is terrible. Hope you kept the original dial and hands at least.
