My MWO book came in yesterday so I see that listed now regarding serial numbers. So, what if,(dangerous statement) my Extract of the archives comes back and this is indeed a 1969 issue with a serial of 27,715,xxx? If it is a '69 then it will be a matter of dial and hands to make it original. If it is a '68 then it will be caseback, dial and hands correct?
My second question: I have a Mark II with a serial number very close to this one, 27,719,xxx. In everything I've read I've never heard of anyone taking a movement from a Pre-moon and putting it into a Mark II but there are cases of the opposite. I've also ordered an extract for this watch.

I guess we will just have to wait and see the extract.

Well I was contacted by Omega with an official letter that the records for my watch are damaged, etc. I'll post a picture of the letter soon. I called and talked to the Omega repairman that overhauled it last year and he assured me it was an early 1969 model from what the serial number pulled up in his database but that was all he could tell me

It is for now. I've read a couple of threads where people had the same reply and kept asking and eventually they found out the information they were seeking. I'm going to keep trying and see what happens. We shall see.

I had trouble with the chronograph. The watch would stop working after a few minutes. THANK goodness that it was still under warranty. I sent it in, they repaired it and the 2 year warranty was started over. Doesn't get much better. I continued to ask about the Extract and the repairman also said it shows to be 1969 but no record yet from the Archives.
But, check this out. I ordered an Extract for my Mark II with the serial number 27,719,xxx. It arrived today. August 18, 1969 shipped to Hong-Kong. I'll post pictures when the Mk II returns from servicing. Anyway, I know that is not a guarantee that this '69 Premoon is from 1969, but it is hard to fathom it not being a '69, with the serial numbers only 3,000 digits away. (my Premoon is 27,715,xxx).
    Regardless, I'll enjoy it!

Is this a nice way for Omega to say "something doesn't match up here", or are they really missing info on a bunch of watches?

Hard to say either way really. I'd vote "something doesn't match up here" if I hadn't seen this on other threads where there is a better history of the watch than mine. Plus, when it's "mine" you always hope for the best possible outcome! Cheers

I've had this happen to me too, and asked the same thing - I think Omega will tell you what the movement was originally installed in. However, I've never seen someone post an Extract showing their watch is a franken either....

Well they told me it was a Speedmaster /pre-moon for sure. But all that said I'd like that piece of paper. Down the road that will go further than "but they told me"

Where did you receive that information? Doesn't appear in the email you screenshotted....

Not trying to be accusatory here man, but that serial number lines up better with either a 145.022-68 or a Mark II (such as your own!). -69 serial numbers tend to begin with the 2842xxxx numbers, though I do not have the latest edition of MWO and that may well be updated. I had one such -69 that was produced in January 1970 though, so I suppose it's possible there are some -69 with earlier serial numbers.

No problem. Good questions. And even with the answers I've been given, like I've posted above, they really fall short of what I hope for.

I've asked the Houston Omega Boutique. The man I bought it from is from Houston and they sent it in for a complete service to wherever their service center is. The paper they sent back, the warranty card, had the date 1969. I wanted to know how they came up with that. I called. They said their system showed that. Then I spoke with their onsite repair man and he said it was 69. Then when it was sent in this last time, and they sent it off again, I had them confirm it as best they could. Whoever/wherever they sent it said the same thing- their system says it is a 1969 pre moon.
How they get that info is not at my disposal. They got it with the serial number twice over the phone and when they had it in their center the other times. The only ultimate answer will be an Extract. But until that can be determined I have to go on their statements. And now the helpful Extract Prediction posted by ck77 also states '69.
I just want the actual Extract to close the discussion once and for all!

Eagerly waiting! I should have the Extract in hand tomorrow! After months of working with an Omega Lead Sales Executive and his work with a direct contact in Bienne, my Extract is almost here!
