1968 Seamaster 550 De Ville Gold cap. It's so clean, does this look correct or a re-dial??

You are the experts. It's your world, I'm just living in it. Please, help.

I've had my eye on this dress watch. It's a Ross case, LL6066, for USA only. Can something this old be this clean? Hands right, dial original or redone? Case right, too polished, etc.? It looks real to me but I'm too emotionally involved!

If that's a redial it's freakin' awesome. It's not too difficult to find these front loaders in excellent condition.

Wait, that serial number does denote 1969, which is a problem because the Seamaster DeVille was no more after 1968. Might be a franken, but since it's a US made case there's a chance it's still original.

It's clean and shiny because it's been polished. The lugs aren't as crisp as they should be.

See the edge of the rotor where its slightly darker? That's where its been rubbing against the case back, you can see the dark circular line on the crown side of the case back between 2 to 6.

Yup, see it. Is that common or just a freak with this case? I'm hoping to be talked out of this one, it's way overpriced anyway..

It has a loose rotor & the case is over polished, if its also over priced then i'd forget it. Unless its really rare, you can always find another in better condition.

I don't think it's rare, the attraction (other than the beauty of the thing) is that it is in the USA (where I am) so no import duty, etc. It's $1,250.00 shipped. Overpriced, overpolished, but still pretty.

Thank you...they are out there and you can find one without too much trouble, just might take a little time.

And the one your looking at is extremely overpriced, for what it is! Personally I'd pass and wait for a better example.

I sold a near perfect 166.020 a few years back for MUCH less than the crazy asking price of the watch posted by the OP.

It's not a particularly rare watch and as stated, it is not uncommon to find one of these in good cosmetic condition, including the dial. Take a look at the one posted above and see how the case is much crisper - that's how it should look and only a case like that is worth paying a premium for. Good luck in your search 😀
