Hello. Newbie to posting on the forum after a long time watching from the sidelines. I would love some expert opinions on a watch I have been waiting for a long time. I've always coveted a pre moon speedy with a 321 and have found one for sale that looks fully original to me EXCEPT the serial number is confusing. The watch is all original from what I can see with the correct hands/dials/pushers/1039 bracelet and DO90 bezel insert, but the serial number on the 321 movement is 20078### which is thought to be from 1963.

Does anyone have any ideas on if this is possible or heard of before, or more simply a replacement movement? Any advice or thoughts would be very welcome.

    Sorry no photos.
    Thanks

Ooh no photos will restrict your replies!

There shouldn't be a serial that low in a '67, so it's highly likely that its not the original movement.

Could be that a new movement was needed due to damage (any signs of water damage, pitting dial discolouration?), or it may have mistakenly been switched at service.

    Welcome to the forum

    Oh, and pictures!!

These photos just through, but can't read the serial number which has been quoted to me. Photos not great I'm afraid.

Another one. Still can't read the serial number properly but maybe not 20078755 as quoted. DSC05995[1].jpeg

Are you sure it's not 25xxxxxx? Which would be correct.

Everything else looks nice correct, even the bracelet and endlinks.

Apart from the damage to the bezel at 6, I think that would clean up very nicely indeed. The fact that the crystal is hammered suggests it may not have been tampered with in a long time, which is good.

If price is ok, it's a buy from me.

    Go get it!
Looks lovely! Just like an unmolested old chronograph should.

    Don't worry it's most probably 26.07...

Thanks for the vote of confidence on this one. It feels right to me too. Apparently needs a service as losing time but looks like it has been sitting in a drawer for decades. Untouched.
If I get it out won't be going to Omega though. Are parts for 321 movements hard to find if necessary?

Parts for the 321 is not off the shelf available, but I have always been able to find the little amount of parts needed.
Lemania CH27 based watches from lesser known brands may also serve as donors in an emergency.

My extract came in a few weeks ago confirming serial number and movement were correct for the caseback [emoji106]

Thanks Grizzlycanuck. Didn't see that thread. I'm pretty sure the one in after is correct so will have to take a punt. Have you had yours cleaned and serviced yet?

Better snag it before the master of sock drawer speedies tracks it down!

Surely not the done thing on the forum! What do you reckon the price should be? Needs a new crystal and service.

Service cost can vary a lot. I would calculate about EUR750 if I had a chance to buy it.
As for prizes on these they seem to increase dramatically every time I have a look at one.
