Hi, I purchased a 1967 Omega Seamaster 166.032 recently and I noticed the day/date window is covered with an elongated cyclops. Is this original to the watch or was this a creative addition by a jeweler at a service?
Check to see if there is an Omega logo engraved in the middle of the crystal. If there is these omega signed crystals with the cyclops tend to be authentic replacement crystals from Omega.
I've seen a few of these with the cyclops. Here's one with an Omega-signed crystal: https://www.fixingwatches.com/2018/08/05/project-1969-omega-seamaster-166-032-cal-752/
I have one like this, it is original. I read somewhere (here?) that it was an option back then (with or without mag).
That makes more sense. a service plexi with that sort of mag wouldnt be common. I will have this tomorrow clean it up and post some better pics.
Well its here and after a thorough clean and polish it has turned out ok. The one thing I noticed is that there seems to be a gold rehaut surrounding the dial. I tried to take some photos of this. Was this common on this model? In general what do you think of the watch?
lol, scratch that. Its not gold, its just grimey. This does need a service from my watch maker, no doubt about it.
Nice find , your dial seems to be radial finish just like mine. Seems like you have a plexi glass with the gold pressure ring rather than the steel ring version. Here is mine for comparison
Ok, thats very helpful, thank you. The photos in the auction made it hard to make out what sort of dial it had. So far it seems to be a lovely little watch. I am quite happy with it. I paid $496USD, a good price?
Think you did good as just the 1069 bracelet is worth some $. Got a friend looking for a 1069 in case willing to sell it
Thanks, it was sold pictured on a vintage stretch bracelet. In one of the last photos I could see the original 1069 bracelet, so I snapped it up. Thanks for the kind words, I am pretty happy with the watch.
Phew! Well thanks for that, its gone to a good home believe me. Plus I have spent all evening trying to clean 57 years of grime out of the bracelet, so you dodged that also
I tipically use an old toothbrush to clean them, soaking in hot water good too. Steam, ultrasonic cleaner also good choices if you have any of those available
Thanks. In the end I tried all methods a few times over. This bracelets hollow links were deeply packed with black grease. Its all out now and it looks really fresh.
For some reason, these radial dials versions don't get as much attention than their "Sparkel dial" brothers, but I think they look nicer. I don't know what they're called, but I just call it my "non-sparkle dial". I went through a similar restoration on mine that went from this: To this: Both crystal and bracelet were sourced from my local Omega Boutique. But I am now on the hunt for an original 1069/524 bracelet...if anyone can help me out....
