I was born in 64 and am contemplating a special purchase next year to celebrate that particular milestone, as my 3570.50 needs some company. Its ideal companion would be a Speedmaster from that year but I'm not entirely sure which of the vintage models were in production or available then. I know that the "Ed White" - 105.003 is the prime candidate but were there any others such as possibly the 105.012? Does anyone know of a 64 issued 105.012? Thank you very much in advance.
For your reference, this example of Ref. 167.005 (no date) is from 1964, with a 21 million serial number: This is what you should be looking for in a pie-pan Constellation. Hope this helps, gatorcpa
Thank you both for your suggestions, but I'm not sure that a gold watch is quite for me, I'm definitely after a vintage Speedy but may have to extend my range.
I'd consider a Navitimer on my list of possibles. I just put 1964 watches into eBay and this one popped up - I don't know how original it is, but I'm sure there are some here that could say: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Breitling-AOPA-Navitimer-809-1964-24-hour-/151162103031Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Of course, it all depends on what your budget is.
You can purchase either a 105.002, 105.003-63 or 105.012-63 delivered in 1964. Or if you prefer that 64 appears on the caseback, purchase 105.003-64 or 105.012-64, most of which have been delivered in 1965
Here's how you get that exact watch. PM me for my Paypal information. I'll put that on the list of watches I want to see in gator's collection when I'm in Florida meeting with him on a non-game day during our annual Spring Training Pilgrimage. I'll get Windy to bop gator on the noggin and ship you the watch. Otherwise, start trolling da 'Bay and ask for our opinions.
I think I'll leave it in the safe deposit box that week. That particular one didn't come from the 'bay. It was sitting unloved at a jewelry store with more human funk on it than you can imagine. Paid about 50% of market value for it at the time (late 2010). Only way I could tell it was 14K was by the brickwork on the observatory on the rear. Took a couple of hours of careful polishing to return it to the condition you see here. Sometimes you get the bear and other times the bear gets you. That day I got the bear. gatorcpa
The funniest part is that Windy & I do eat that beef jerky on car trips. Usually the sweet & hot though.
