1964 Constellation - a keeper?

I need your help!

My Speedmaster was stolen a few months ago. And I decided to get something classic and a little smaller to replace it (narrow wrist).

This 1964 14K pie pan cal. 561 came up on auction and I bought it at 4950 USD. A lot of money. But newly serviced by Omega. It’s practically a new watch - or so it appears.

I have a couple of weeks to consider if I want to keep it or return the watch.

My question to you/someone knowledgeable: is it worth the buck or did I overpay? And is the crown period correct? Anything else to watch out for?

We would need clearer, close up pictures of the dial to make the call on an original dial, but from what I am seeing (and it may be distortion on the available photos) it looks to be a redial.

As far as the crown, it is not original to this watch. 9.9/10 these watches came with the decagonal crown.

I’d like to see movement pictures as well.

I think the pics are terribly distorted - so o agree decent pictures are required.
From what we can see (and guess) the case looks quite soft.

Original pictures with zoom are here. Thank you 😀

From the photos posted, it appears to be 1964 Chevy Chevelle Malibu, have a mechanic look it over before you buy.

Thank you. Non-US here. I am clueless as to whether a “Chevy Chevelle Malibu” is a good think or a bad thing? 😬

I haven’t opened the watch/seen the movement. But will make sure to get it checked.

Dial looks fine on the auction pics.
However, the lugs do look heavily polished and have lost their facets.

With the gold price being what it is at the minute prices are all over the place but $4950 seems very very expensive to me for a soft 14k dogleg pie pan.

There was a thread on a 14k 167.005 with Coca-Cola on the dial this week or last - have a look for reference.

The watch case was much sharper in general. The dial was very nice. The case sharpness is really critical to the value on these refs.

The auction price was mentioned in the thread, with some commentary. If I recall it was about 1k below your price.

You can’t compare 1-to-1, but should give you a good pricing point for a strong condition 14k dogleg (+/- something for the no date/date, the case back engraving and the Coke logo - depending on how positively/negatively you value this).

The fact that it was serviced is also something to consider though. A service is 300-500$ these days.

I would return it also, due to the condition of the case.

„Serviced by Omega“ isn’t necessarily a good thing if you’re looking for original.

whatever the various aspects of the watch, I would return it given the chance ... too expensive in any case ..;
