Hi Gang. Hoping to sell this watch here before heading over to eBay to list as a no-reserve auction. I’ve been consulting with some very generous experts on these forums and they have been wonderful helping me understand the pros and cons of this watch. That being said, there was quite a wide range of suggestions as to an appropriate “offer price” which is the reason an eBay auction may be in order so as to let the market decide. But first, let’s see if we can sell it here! I’d rather leave some $$$ on the table if it means avoiding the Bay. Ok. The watch......It’s a very cool watch IMO but one that does have its problems. The 2 primary issues are 1.) its bezel insert is a re-paint and 2.) its dial and hands, while perfectly matched, are pretty well baked. Pics below tell the story better. Negatives aside, It’s a great watch for the right collector. The serial and subreference match and so do the parts (besides bezel inlay). It has the correct stick hands and an early second hand. It also has the correct dial without pinhole and the correct 17J cal 550 with oxg mark. It was serviced while in my possession by Jack @ IWW about 3 years ago. As expected, it does have a service crown but was replaced before either Jack or I laid hands on it. Price, factoring in all of the above, is $6500 US (includes domestic shipping / int’l TBD). Open to informed negotiation. References available from members here and elsewhere. I am far from an expert but have tried my best to tell it like it is......or at least as I think it to be. Watch will be sold as-is with no returns unless I’ve grossly mis-represented something. Thanks to all for looking and to OF for the platform. Tom
Just to add a bit. The production may have been in 1964 but this watch is a 63. A straight lug 165.014-63; next to the last year that the Seamaster 300 were produced (1964) with a straight lug case. IMHO, lots of originality in this example. As far as the crusty grey lume, it’s original and adds character. These watches were tool diving watches back in the day. With the humid environments came this lume color. Sure beats a relume and the Frankens appearing on eBay. GLWS
Watch is now OHPF. Thanks to all for your help and interest and to OF for the oppty to sell here. Tom
