I am looking at two geneve watches for daily wear. I would like comments on the reputation of the movement, reliability, relative value, and collectibility of these types of omegas. Each watch is extremely clean, no scratches to be seen. Each costs less than $400. Love to add pictures, but am a newbie to forums. thanks mike
The Cal 601 is a bulletproof in-house movement, Cal 1480 I don't know much about but I doubt its as good as the 601.
Cal. 1480 is a Tissot movement used by Omega in between the 1000 and the 1010 series to fill the gap because they had problems with the cal. 1000.
I thought that the manuel wind would be simplier and more stable - thanks disio for the info. I have to assume that if omega adopted a competetors movement it was solid. I s Tissot top notch? Any body care to give a short tutorial on posting pictures to an existing thread?
If it is the Tissot 784 family, it isn't a bad movement but the date change mechanism is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.
Who needs a date anywho. Info like this sure makes the hand wind look good. I tound the picture insert button and was so proud of myself tha i immediately added pictures twice! The thumbnails are of the 72 auto wind.
Mikewho needs a date, that's who. This is startging to sound like a Dr. Seuss story. They were both part of SSH, along with Lemania, since the 1930's. I'd go with the manual wind 600 series too, although there's nothing wrong with those Tissot automatics.
