Hey all, I came across this vintage seamaster and may look into it depending on the advice I get here. All replys are much appreciated! http://www.qualityvintagetimepieces.com/OmeSeaSSADBVNFull.html
Sorry, asking price is $950 US. I think the watch looks in solid shape, nice patina. Dial and crown look original but I am unsure if it's been polished? .
Are you really unsure about the polishing or are you just trying to overlook it? I think it's too expensive but that's just me.
I definitely wouldn't take it for the asking price. I guess I am more unsure the level of polish. This would be my first Omega watch. Thanks for the insight.
Maybe you could put up the description the seller has for the watch and give us your thoughts on what appeals to you personally, what makes you think it's a good one and what your concerns are.
You bet, here's the description: "1961 OMEGA SEAMASTER CALENDAR AUTOMATIC SS This is an Omega Automatic Seamaster Calendar watch. The original dial is exceptionally aged. Will come with a brand new crystal. Crown is original and signed. The solid stainless steel case is in excellent condition. The case measures 35mm across excluding the crown by 41mm lug tip to lug tip. Case model is 14763 - 61 SC and come with a new case back gasket. The 24 jewels movement has been fully serviced and date feature working correctly. It is an Omega caliber 562 automatic movement. Movement serial number is 18321025 dating this watch to 1961. Will come with a new genuine leather strap." Things that are appealing are that it's SS. It seems SS models are harder to come by in this year of Seamasters. There seems to be a lot of gold filled cases. I am a fan or originality and patina. I also like the movement and the minimalist design. I think if anything what makes this watch desirable would be the original dial and crown but I'm not keen on the asking price. What would a watch in this condition sell for privately? Many thanks,
For reference here is one which sold here of the forum a couple years ago, in nice original condition. Price adjusted for today's market, comes nowhere near the asking price for a polished example like OPs listing. https://omegaforums.net/threads/sold-seamaster-automatic-calendar-1962-14763.22626/ Google is your friend, use it.
Thanks X350, I have yet to come across one for that price. Especially without getting nailed with import/duty fees.
About a month or so. I've limited myself to Canada in hopes of avoiding all the extra "fees". I'm thinking I may need to branch out
Then you've just begun your search. Hang out here for six months or so and learn from the decades of collective experience found here. Be patient.
I have Omega on the brain, very hard to not pull the trigger on the first collectable piece I see. I may have gone down the rabbit hole. Thanks for the advice, I will surely take it
Hi, Congrats on the start of your omega addiction. If you like the look of that watch, you may want to look up Omega 166.010, it looks very similar but has the 565 caliber movement which is quickset ( a very nice feature). I live in Canada myself, I know your feelings on customs ( can be a hard hit at times). Keep looking and stay positive and you will find a great piece.
It's one thing when the dial has some patina. It's another when it creeps onto the hands and indexes. Hands are bad and indexes not that far behind. No shine left to them. To me. It's a $250 watch as the movement looks clean. DON
