1961 Omega Constellation 14381 cal. 551

Dear all.

I am hereby putting a no-date, pie-pan Constellation ref. 14381-11 in stainless steel up for sale.





The dial has aged to a golden brown hue, while the indices and text are unmarked. The lume on the hands are mostly present while the seconds hand have a broken tip.





The case appears unpolished and there are only very light signs of wear on the front. The back shows some pitting (it is, to use a cliché, much worse in the photos), but the medalion is in very good shape. There are signs of pitting between the lugs near the case opening, but not to a great extent. The crown is of a type which I believe is a period service piece.




The 18mil serial number points to a production year of 1961 and the cal. 551 is in good fettle. The watch winds and sets well and wakes up immediately after picking the watch up. I have no service history for the watch, nor have I controlled accuracy.

Bargain.

If I did not had any ethics I would buy it and sell it twice the price on chrono. Sadly I have them so 'good luck' with the sales. I give it one hour...ruining the market... eur 550 for a pie pan dial... what's wrong with this world...

While I try not to add "OHPF" or "Sold!" comments to my sales posts as to not clog up the "Latest" feed, I'd like to say that I am (happily) surprised by the reception of the Constellation, which is now spoken for.

To me the price is fair, but not a bargain. It needs some love to shine and even then it will always have some niggling faults such as the pitting which will stop the value from reaching the top tier of Constellations. Hopefully the buyer will appreciate it and use it more than I got around to doing 😀

Still, it faces up beautifully.
