I will be sending my Calibre 561 Constellation, 18m serial, to the mechanic in a few days, and I have a query:

Would the bezel be 14K solid on a watch of this type?

I would assume so, due to its placement in the Omega range in 1961, but I would like opinions . . .

    Thank you.

Hi, i think you have answered your own question though. Its gold capped - ie a relatively thick layer of gold laid over a base metal

Its not considered a solid gold bevel though

Desmond has a paper describing gold cap connies, which is worth a read

    Enjoy regardless

I think the bezel and the medallion are 14k gold solid, the lugs are gold capped though.

    Why not ask the mechanic?

I always assumed gold cap was the case, bezel and lugs with a solid medallion (which is just a thin disk of gold)
But have seen reference to solid gold bezels (mainly in watch-adverts IIRC)
Perhaps the Constellation gods can weigh in with a definitive answer (and what karat the gold might be for each)

The bezels on those 14k gold capped constellations are 14k solid gold.

    I would tend to agree.

When the watch was manufactured, fifty-five years ago, gold was a lot less expensive than it is today, and the Conny was the top of the Omega range . . .
