An estate sale find, a 1959 Constellation 14381, back from servicing. The crown was replaced with an Omega crown. I'm pleased with the outcome. First picture is before, the other pictures are after.
My 14381-9 GC has a similar layout but pie pan dial and dates to ~1960 on 17.75m so I don’t think he is that far out with a 1959 estimate.
The serial number is a very low 17 million. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the chart I was looking at claims that's from 1959.
The 14381 model was launched in 1959 AFAIK so I would say 59-60 is right. That is a low iteration too at -2, mine is a -9
The watch looked like it was a sock drawer find, and came from an estate sale. The case back was pretty much cemented shut, and needed my watchmakers special tool to open. Unfortunately, I scratched the back trying to open it myself. Also, the gold cap was completely peeled off the crown, and that needed replaced. Also, I'm having issues with the stem coming out now, when setting the time. Looks like it'll have to go back to my watchmaker
OK, if it is in the lower 17xxx,xxx range I can accept the movement being from the 1959-60 era but I think Omega started their layout change on their 14381 dials in the early 1960's. Bat Signal for Desmond......... Mine: 14381-1 with low serial number
I think yours is different because it’s the rather uncommon arrow-head version. The ‘missing text’ style ran for a few years on the 14381. IIRC Something like 59-62?
