Quick back story --- watch purchased by my father in 1956 while stationed in Europe (serial number 146...). He passed away at 50 while I was in high school. Watch sat in my dresser drawer really ever since. I turn 50 this year and thought it would be a nice present to myself to have his/my watch restored. The Omega boutique at South Coast Plaza sent the watch to Switzerland for restoration, and here it is 4 months later. It looks great!

Now I am in a quandary about a band. With all due respect to $12 watch bands, I don’t want to put a $12 watch band on it. I am thinking something brown leather, but am looking for suggestions for a nice band (brand, style) -- I'd like to keep it sort of 'original'.

Once it’s all done, I will post a better photo. Thanks in advance.

That is a heart-warming story behind your watch. Wear it in good health. Thanks for sharing with photo too! Would like to see it again when it's wearing its new strap.

I'd probably outfit that one in black buffalo. I bought this strap and it's proven to be a favorite. Very attractive. Very comfortable. Very sturdy. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOB-Nubuck-...848?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43cdc0bad0Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

Same thing in brown. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOB-Nubuck-...026?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46255fc0f2Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

I put a cocoa ostrich strap on a vintage Omega from 1949 with a dial of similar hue to yours and enjoyed the results. Here's the strap, only you'll need an 18mm version rather than the 20mm that is shown in this auction. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FINE-Mens-2...454?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588456d226Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

Something in calf, or if you want to go exotic, lizard, would be correct for the period of the watch... This is my Seamaster from the same era on lizard...

You can also get a lot of strap ideas from looking through the 'WRUW' (What are you wearing) thread. It's a beautiful watch - wear it in good health, and post pictures when you are done!

I would probably buy an Omega crocodile strap and the appropriate deployant buckle.

The problem is, you can't buy a strap made like that.

Yeah, I know. I scour various online catalogs and Ebay searching for straps that most closely mimic them. Those Bob straps for which I stuck up a link earlier "sorta" resemble the originals.

Seems like a strap producer could make some money selling replica straps as are seen in the old ads.

    Hear that, watch strap makers?

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback and photos. I too have looked at some of these old ads (and even bought a 1956 ad off ebay, just to have) -- I would love to find a replica strap. And I think something in calf would be my first choice...

I love those straps. Just bought one of these which are similar and very good value.

Great! Please show your Seamaster again when it's all dressed up.

With luck and patience you can buy one like this from eBay.
