Bought more watches than I should have, and now it's time to pay the piper. Since I have two caliber 501 Seamasters, this one lost the coin toss a few weeks ago and is on the block but I've been delaying parting with it. As most of you know, black dials are tough to shoot so forgive any lint you see - this dial is fantastic.

The gold crown and crystal retainer make the dial furniture really pop. The case does have some minor imperfections but nothing that wouldn't keep anyone from wearing it. They're barely noticeable in person. I tried to emphasize any flaws in the following pictures, and one or two mark are reflection from the crinkly paper. (doh!)

The watch was just serviced by Steve / N2FHL also…. and I mean literally just serviced as I picked it up from him last night. A new set bridge was installed too, and as you can see the movement is in excellent shape.

Asking $850 (which converts to £525 / €627 at today's rate) plus shipping. Offers welcome too - contact me at [email protected] or simply start a conversation with me here.

Thanks for looking!

Great looking piece...I do expect this to fly!
Quick question for my education: when did Omega start putting the Seamaster on the back? I see this one does not have it, but does have other markings on the case back.

If you mean the hippocampus logo, it would have started in the mid/late 50's with select case references.

On or about 1958. Everyone knows where it came from, right??

"A seahorse emblem has graced the casebacks of this line since 1958 as a symbol for water-resistance, and is now one of the best-known trademarks in the world of watches. The logo was conceived by engraver Jean-Pierre Borle, who was inspired in Venice by an image of Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, driving a chariot pulled by seahorses (this is why the Omega seahorses wear bridles)."

Yes the hippocampus as we see it on Omega products was inspired as stated above, but more specifically borrowed by Omega from the Cavali rope ties on Venetian Gondolas.
Here's a shot of Dennis when I first met him, he had yet to purchase his first Omega at that point

A few more Cavali in my collection.
