Hi folks,
I’m new to the forum but not new to watches. My friend asked me to take a look at his fathers watch that my friend recently inherited. His father purchased the watch new in 1952 while in Tangier’s (I have that paperwork). He wore it for dress occasions but had put it in a safe deposit box over 30 years ago. My friend had it serviced by Omega last year and had them put a new strap on it that would have been correct for the vintage. My friend asked me to buy it but we would need t have a fair value. Is that something that someone here on the forum would do or, if not, can you guide me to someone? I’ll try to post a photo as a starting point.
Many thanks,
George

People are going to need a lot more information, and good luck if there is much left of the watch after the Omega service center.

Ave, Let me know what you need and I'll post it. Here ’s the receipt from the service.

Based on the picture of the watch and the receipt, it doesn't seem that Omega changed much. No crazy dial swapping or hand replacements. Though it makes sense that if this were a watch worn for dress occasions, it wouldn't have much needing fixing, to begin with.

As to the OP, the watch seems to have more sentimental value than it does actual value. It's a nice watch in good condition, but it's not a chronometer or from one of the contemporary sports watch lines, so there just isn't as much collector attraction to models like these. Assuming that the case is 18k gold, and all the original papers check out, I would estimate that the market price would be around $1,250 to $1,750.

Yeah the receipt Definitely helps. If that dial is original as the receipt shows then wow that watch is in such amazing condition!
