i have what I believe is a 1956 501 Caliber Seamaster. Was hoping someone can confirm that. Would love any additional info about the watch or these watches of that period. Also looking for vintage pictures or other pics of pieces in the era so I can pick a band that would fit the era.

Replacement/relumed hands. Hard to say much else with the current pics.

Google omega 2975, that's the reference number stamped inside the case back.

Google "Omega Seamaster 2975" to learn more.

Hands seem original but agreed that the lume doesn't look right. Dial seems fine. Case looks heavily polished but hard to say from these photos.

Do you have photos of the outside of the case back? Does it have the large hippocampus logo? If so, there's a very similar one here.

Unfortunately there is no dedicated Seamaster site comparable to the Omega Constellation Collectors Blog. You have to research the model by its case reference here and on the Net generally. I agree that despite the relume the hands are probably original, also that the case has been polished but this hasn't wrecked the definition and everything else looks original. Although the dial is marked it's not bad and overall I think it's still a decent wearable watch. Don't be tempted to get the dial cleaned or refinished. If it hasn't been serviced recently, that will want doing but don't send it to Omega for reasons that have been discussed ad infinitum on this forum.
