Gold dial furniture in a steel case wasn't uncommon back then. Sometimes the manufacturer even put a 14k bezel on, and on rare occasions used a gold plated crown on a steel case.
We'd have to see the watch inside and out to have a better guess on if it's been recased or not. It's a 2627 which usually had a caliber 353 inside, while the 2757 housed the 355 most times...... but there was a fair possibility of a 2627 having a 355 (like Kyle's in the OP) and vice versa.
The date window and the movement serial number give a better indication. When first released in 1952, the date window was rectangular. Sometime in 1953, the window was changed to that trapezoidal shape. There was an overlap of bowler crowns (like Kyle's watch) and clover crowns around this time too.
