HI all, I'm being offered this by a local seller for $350. Apparently it's a 1950s Cal. 28. I can't find much info about it. What do you all think? Would I just be buying the name, or does it have more interest than that?

The dial is not convincing. Do you have other photos?

Most of the Breitling dress watches from the 1950s I have seen either have applied baton metal hour markers or applied metal numerals. I have never seen one using luminous material. Breitling is known for it's pilot watches, it's chronographs, not so much for its dress watches. I think you are buying the name if it's authentic and I will leave it to others that know more than myself to determine authenticity. Personally, I don't find it attractive and the dial seems wrong.

Yes, at best it's a redial, since the logo is bad and the printing is sloppy. We would need to see more to know if it's authentic.

Somehow it sort of reminds me of the 'dummy' watches some propsmakers do for filmed stunts and such...

I've been trying to study-up on the Chronomat 769, so some of the same factors apply: Straight-writing "Breitling" and "Geneve" are only post-1953, if dial is lumed then hands should be lumed, etc. So it's got a couple of things right(ish). It's not a princely sum if you like it, but I suspect you'll have trouble moving it on to someone knowledgeable in the future if you ever try. I would agree that the dial has been reprinted and relumed (a little sloppy) and I think it should say "Swiss Made" instead of just Swiss. The hands match the lume close enough, but I'm not certain if they should be pencil/syringe style instead of alphas.
