Up for grabs is an absurdly white 1950s Omega Seamaster, reference 2846. I'd assume it spent most of its life in a drawer somewhere, because usually, those dials turn creme/beige over the decades. It does look spectacular, but doesn't really fit into the collection and as it was more of a bycatch I hope it'll find a new home here.

The Watch

Omega
Reference: 2846
Movement: cal. 501
Serial: 1678xxxx
Year: 1958
Case: 34.5mm, stainless steel
Dial: Original white dial with stainless steel indices and alpha hands.
Strap: Burgundy Rios croco leather strap.

Condition

Very clean and sharp.

Dial & Hands: The original dial has retained its white color. Depending on the background as a contrast, it varies from snow-white to the slightest touch of creme - either way, to call this dial white certainly is no exaggeration. I don't think it's seen much sunlight in the past 65 years or so. It's in very good shape, all the writing is there, crisp and sharp, and the lume has aged to a beautiful, deep pumpkin-brown. The Alpha hands are a nice touch, certainly uncommon for the reference, and have possibly be relumed.

Case: Original 34.5mm stainless steel case with very minor dings/scratches, most notably on the case back, but a beautiful condition nonetheless. It retains its edges and bevels and is in a very nice shape. The hippocampus case back was, if I remember correctly, only produced for a very short period of time for these, and it's a nice extra. It, too, is nice and sharp.

Crown: Original omega crown, clover style and flat-feet logo, as would be expected for the reference.

Crystal: Generic crystal in overall good condition - a few minor scratches, nothing deep though and no cracks.

Movement: Original cal. 501 automatic. The movement is in beautiful condition, very clean, all original. It winds very smoothly, both manually and automatically, keeps very good time and has the power reserve it's supposed to have.

Strap: It’s a burgundy, genuine croco strap by Rios which I haven't even worn a handful of times.

Seller Reviews

Plenty reviews available here, but either my username is too short to use the search function for that or I’m not handling the forum software eloquently enough, which is entirely possible. Anyway:

I’m also happy to provide verification through my eBay-account that has been standing for 20 years, with >2000 reviews, 100% positive. Please do ask.

Payment, Shipping & Returns

Payment is accepted via PayPal F&F, bank transfer, Wise or cash in person. Happy to meet you for a personal transaction, of course. Coffee’s on me.

I’m asking

660€

The watch is located in Germany. Tracked shipping is usually

6€ nationally
14€ within the EU/GB/Switzerland
~35-50€ to the rest of the world

Happy to ship wherever, get in touch and I'm sure we can figure something out.

No returns please, unless I misrepresented the watch in any way.

Note: I've tried a couple different backgrounds to show the different shade of white the watch displays. Let me know if you need more.

And some close-ups. Firstly, the dial:

The crown, which looks perfectly fine with the bare eye, but shows its age under 30x zoom:

The lugs, with their sharply defined bevels:

Note the sharp edge where the lugs meet the case and the equally sharp bevel on the bezel. This is a well-preserved case.

And a closer look at the hippocampus, which is just a lovely little feature to set this particular watch apart from many of the plain-case-back 2846s. It's very sharp

Even the circular brushing around the medallion is still visible:

Good Lord. I miss one morning checking in on OF and this happens. Gorgeous example. Do I need another watch? No, but that has nothing to do with it! 🫨Congrats to seller and buyer.
