MtV
·Round four of my quest to free up funds for another arrival. I hope I can stop soon. 😁
It’s another watch that, in this specific configuration, I’d even call “rare”. A stunning black dial 2639 with, well - shall we coin it “Chevrolet-style” lume on 3 and 9? 😉 I only know of one other example, albeit in white. At 36mm, it’s rather large for an early 50s Omega and wears great.
The Watch
Omega
Reference: 2639
Movement: cal. 266
Serial: 13449310
Year: 1952
Case: 36mm, stainless steel
Dial: Original black dial with a 12-only numeral and sub-second.
Strap: Light brown with vintage-style contrast stitching.
Condition
Patinated and worn, yet attractive stunner.
Dial & Hands: The original dial has retained a deep black with a matt finish, while the sub-dial is a contrasting gloss. In most angles, it’s simply black, in direct sunlight and steep angles a mostly even patina does show, looking almost oily. It’s pretty cool. Some minor discoloration upon close inspection here and there, but as I hope the wrist shots do show, it’s a lovely, lovely thing. The thick lume has the typical “roughed-up” texture of vintage radium. I got the watch with incorrect hands and with the help of a kind fellow member here sourced the correct and original stainless steel syringe hands for it, which were expertly relumed by the one and only James Hyman. The original lume on the dial has turned to a pumpkin-esque color, and as most examples I’m aware of with original lume on both dial and hands showed a slight difference in color (with the hands being less dark), I feel like it’s indeed been very well done.
Case: Original 36mm stainless steel case with small dings and scratches all around, commensurate of 70 years of age. I’m sure it’s seen a polish before, but retains it’s edges and is in an overall attractive condition and good to be worn. There’s a few “idiot marks” on the case back from failed opening attempts, the screw back does close softly though.
Crown: Original Omega crown, correct bowler hat style for the reference and the period-correct flat-feet one, too.
Crystal: Generic crystal in ok condition - no cracks, but a few scratches here and there. Please note that the one from ~3:30 to the sub dial is indeed just a light scratch on the plexi, it’s not on the dial.
Movement: Original cal. 266 manual. The movement is in beautiful condition, very clean, all original. It’s winds very smoothly, keeps good time and has a good power reserve. The seller I got it from said he had it serviced and it does say so in the case back, indicating the 14. of October last year. I don’t have a receipt for it, though, so make it it what you will.
Strap: It’s a light brown leather strap, hand-made in Germany, with contrast stitching. I found it matches the watch / lume quite well. I’ve worn it a couple of times but it’s very soft and in good shape.

Plenty reviews available here, but either my username is too short to use the search function for that or I’m not handling the forum software eloquently enough, which is entirely possible. Anyway:

I’m also happy to provide verification through my eBay-account that has been standing for 20 years, with >2000 reviews, 100% positive. Please do ask.
Payment, Shipping & Returns
Payment is accepted via PayPal F&F, bank transfer, Wise or cash in person. Happy to meet you for a personal transaction, of course. Coffee’s on me.
I’m asking
1341€
Why the odd price? It’s my total “investment” in it (without the strap, that’s on me), plain and simple. There’s no reference for this configuration, really. The white one with the same style of dial sold for ~2000€ in an open auction, it was in incredible shape though. The last black dial 2639 here on OF sold for ~1600€ or so, also in very nice condition but in a much more common configuration. So I hope the price is fair.
The watch is located in Germany. Tracked shipping is usually
6€ nationally
12-14€ within the EU/GB/Switzerland
~35-50€ to the rest of the world
Happy to ship wherever, get in touch and I'm sure we can figure something out.
No returns please, unless I misrepresented the watch in any way.
Here are some pictures. Do let me know if you need more. Please note: The “line” from ~3:30 to the subdial is a very superficial scratch in the plexi. It’s not on the dial!
Here’s the aforementioned combination of angle + lighting that highlights the patina, slightly “oily” and rough. It’s not easy to make it look this way, though.
