Hi Thx for looking. I am a goldbuyer and over the years have collected 4 vintage Omegas. I wear one a 1970s MKII Speed master and have two decent Seamasters from the 60s. I also have this and not sure if I should scrap it. It seems a shame, I might just tidy it up. I can't make out however why the gold case has no omega reference but has 17451 on back and a pretty dodgy hallmark. Hope you enjoy the pics and hope you can comment. Maybe it is a South American gold case? The lugs are badly damaged but I might fix them up as it somehow seems to have had a charmed life. Regds Rob, London
Hi @RobWLondon and welcome to the forum. I'm afraid what you have is a "bitsa" watch (bits-a-this, bits-a-that) but sadly the only thing from Omega in that creation is the movement, crown and maybe the hands. There's no value to a watch collector beyond parts but if it appeals to you, that's all that counts.
Thx Vitezi, I guessed I was a better goldbuyer than watch buyer. There's about 12gms of 18k so that's £250.00 and the
Movement runs very well. I might keep the movement and build a new one from original parts out of the gold money. Hopefully when the omega archives are put back online I might get some more info on the original spec that went with the movement number.
Expanding on Vitezi's comment, I believe this is a redial, and not a very convincing one. So the movement is likely only the part you will be happy with investing time and money into. Of course if you love it, then go for it. Maybe consider selling the movement (redial and all) and put your earnings towards a fully-Omega watch. Stick around the forum and with 200 posts you can start selling here. It would be nice to see more watches that you come across being saved from melting
Thx. Yes. I spent ages trawling through 40s omega pictures until I realised something was wrong allthought with hindsight I should have guessed from the finish and detail it was ersatz. When I bought it I was just interested in the gold. I guess the mech is worth £70? Here's my other watches. I m sure their original. They are OK but I had to replace the glass on the Mkll. I have a Rolex Airking.. An unusual Roy King 18k Montre Royal de Geneve and a nice Rolex Cellini for 70s disco revival nights.. But the MK ll is my absolute favourite. Its just a fab watch. I really think they're a steal at anything under 2k as an investment but I'm new at this so. I'll be looking out to pay the extra for the pristine ones. Thx for posting Regds Rob
OMG that Cellini IS serious disco. Great collection. You must see some fascinating items come across your desk. I hope someone else can comment on the cost of the movement, or you could check ebay sold listings. Good luck!
The case on OPs watch looks similar to cases originating from South America, which are typically rather flimsy with hollow lugs. There is really no point in spending the money for an extract as it will likely simply state that a raw movement was shipped.
