So my watchmaker is servicing this for a customer who wants to sell it for $1200, or keep it and refinish the dial. Since I feel like that's a good deal, and can't stand to see this dial refinished, I think I must buy it. Is this a good, average, or fair deal? Does anyone know more about this solid 18k model? Didn't get a picture of the movement when he had it open, but serial number dated it to 1943, and it measures around 38mm.

I can’t really see the condition of the dial in those photos.

    Case looks a bit rough.

Really need to see the inside of the case too.

    I think this helps:

The photos were high enough resolution for this much magnification.

I’m intrigued. Love the hands. Dial looks old but right to my untrained eyes.

Before you buy it at this price check one very important thing: make sure it is a swiss made case ( swiss gold hallmarks) and not a locally made contract case (Argentina comes to mind)...
It is impossible to give you advise without knowing this important detail.

I should have taken pictures when he had it open, but the markings looked correct. Thanks for the info.

The dial is really damaged. I would skip for that price.

"Really damaged". I think it's aged nicely for being 76 years old. And I paid $1,000.

I actually like the dial even though it's lost much of the font, but in a nicely consistent way.

One grand for a well-functioning, serviced 18k jumbo Omega from 1943 seems like a fairly reasonable price to me; are those the correct hands?

The owner of this watch wanted to refinish the dial. I'm not touching it.
