Dear all.

I am hereby putting a steel Eterna Chronograph from 1940 up for sale.

The watch has been in my ownership for four years and in that time I have used it sparingly. It has seen repairs to the hairspring since some schmuck damaged it ( 😬 ) and I have had the balance and coloumn wheel repaired/replaced. I have had it looked at by my watchmaker last week and he measured a amplitude of 294 and didn't recommend servicing it.

The movement is the Eterna cal. 703, which is a modified Valjoux 22. The chronograph functions as it should and time keeping is good as well.

The dial is scarred by a scratch and small dent which reveals the brass plate underneath. There are some light aging (grey spots on top of the dial) as well, but otherwise the galvanic dial looks great. The design of the numerals can be seen on contemporary UGs, Zeniths etc. and looks fantastic.

I think that the running seconds hand is a later replacement, but the only other one of these I have seen (a white dial beauty from @Modest_Proposal, I believe?) had two different subdial hands, so I really don't know. No doubt replacements can be sourced from a V22 donor, should that be necessary.

The 35mm steel case has seen some light polish in its time, but not enough to remove all of the original vertical/horisontal brushing on the case and the side of the lugs. The angular lugs complement the art deco* design in a lovely manner. The caseback is a snap-on type and lug width is 18mm. The leather strap in the photos will accompagny the watch, should the buyer wish so.

I am asking €1000 for this very cool Eterna via bank transfer or Transferwise, tracked shipping included to anywhere. Watch and I are in Denmark, EU. Should the buyer not be satisfied with the watch, I will be happy to accept a return within a week of arrival.

As always, thanks to OF and the guys who run this place 😀

*Okay, I said it! I was tempted to write "gilt dial" earlier on, but I constrained myself 😁

No one consistently prices their watches more fairly than @ConElPueblo, and that can, at times, be irritating to other sellers. 😁

Noob-ish question: How much daily use can this piece handle? A couple days a week? An hour a week? Forget it, put it on display somewhere...?

Thanks

I'd say that as long as you keep it away from water and don't subject it to very hard knocks, there is nothing to keep it from the wrist. The movement it is based on (let's be honest - there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two) is a stable of watch collecting and produced in several decades. The case is in good condition too and shouldn't fall apart suddenly.

I don't think it is a n00bish question at all, as everyone have different tolerances for wearing our watches. I showered with my newly serviced Speedmaster yesterday, but would take this one off my wrist if I was caught in a rain shower.

That's very kind of you, Tony! I don't particularly like the selling process, so I want it done with fast.

Yes - it was mine. Though I believe at least one of the subdial hands was replaced on mine.

I remember having this watch a few years ago for the small hairspring issue. It's a lovely old thing. Good luck with the sale.

Cheers, Chris
