Hi everyone,

I got offered this 1957 Constellation 2852 in 18K gold. I decided to ask advice here about its authenticity, because while it otherwise looks good to me I'm not sure about the caseback medallion.

Were the stars ever in this rough shape from the factory?

Here are some other examples of the medallion on 18K examples from the web:

https://www.hashtagwatchco.com/prod...9t159L7r5k1c8gAX_HRVqdg7KTAslxzkbP_y339VhtbkM https://everywatch.com/omega/constellation/2852/watch-9207207 https://thetimecurator.com/products...e-arrow-head-ref-2852-2853-s-c-18kt-rose-gold

I think the issue here is that these medallions were cast in gold and not struck on a press, like a coin.

Hope this helps,

Ah, makes sense. Thanks for the comparison photos. I see quite a lot of variation from "a pure star shape" on them as well. So I'm now leaning to think my posted example is authentic too (especially when considering the watch as a whole).

Thanks for your input. I tend to agree now after seeing more examples.

It is. Do note what seems like significant discoloration at the outer edge of the dial, around 4-8 o clock. If that‘s not a shade and actual discoloration that’ll effect value massively.

Yes, I noticed that. My guess is it's bit of both. But definitely affects the value compared to mint dial. In this case the price was in line with that. But thanks for making sure this got noticed!

Oh, did you see the listing too 😅? If so, yeah, it was really cheap price. One could say a steal, lol.

Oh well, this was yet another scam on Etsy 😑. Now few days after my purchase and exchange of messages the 5 star rated Etsy shop got deleted. So no watch for me.

I must warn against watch purchases on Etsy. I have gotten couple of nice ones from there but at this point the scam rate is 60% 😅. So it's not worth the time to search there when it's trouble on over half of the transactions.

I mean Etsy is a nice platform for crafts & handmade items, including custom watch straps. But for expensive items this was my last attempt there.

Been burned a few times on Etsy. I protect myself and was refunded each time.

By any chance, was the seller in Morocco?

Yeah, seller was listed as Moroccon, called ZANAHANDCRAFTED.

I too haven't yet lost any money on Etsy due to them refunding those purchases that never got sent. It's just mentally draining to search for good deals, then getting excited when finding one, only to have it wrecked by seller faking it all.

I have a feeling it’s the same person running the scam under different shops. I had them “sent” with tracking info, and one never got updated after it left Morocco, and the other actually got an inbound to US customs status in New York and nothing else after that. This was about a month and a half after purchase, then the Etsy shop got shut down and I got my refund.

Ooo, I see. So they went further with their attempt than in my case. Good to learn about other people's experiences, thanks.

Glad you made it out with your money mate, there are plenty of fish in the sea when it comes to gold Constellations, just be patient and the right watch will come along
