Hi all, I have been watching (and wanting) this Seamaster on the 'bay for months and was looking for some input on why it hasn't sold yet (other than the high price). My only guess is that the hands are the wrong style, I own a 14701 gold cap and 99% of all the others I've seen have dauphine hands, be it luminous, non luminous, or onyx/black style. I've only seen Seamaster Calendars (with Calendar on the dial) with alpha hands. Other than the hands, the dial appears original with correct swis"S" under the 6 o'clock, crown seems like the correct type, I can see the Omega logo in the crystal, 17,000,000 serial dates it to the correct era, even appears the buckle is original. If anyone has any input good or bad I'd love to hear from you! Thanks!

Those Alpha style hands are correct for that model. That's the right crown also, and proper Seamaster font. It's probably still available because of a daunting asking price.

Those originally came with non-date caliber 591's inside. The one I owned had the 591 and Alpha hands. Not sure if these very early 1960's 14.701 versions with the 56x's inside were meant to be date 562's, non-date 55x's, or both. I'd have to check AJTT to be sure.

Ah, interesting. The hands still seem dubious to me, I also scrutinized over what seems to be a thicker dab of black paint towards the end of the hour hand which led me to believe they were previously luminous and filled back in. Like I said, MOST 14701 cases I've seen came with dauphine hands but there's always the grey area when it comes to old stuff leaving the factory and believe you that yours is correct.

I'm inclined to believe the 562 is correct mine is also a 562 non quickset date, seems as though the 14701 came in date, non date with any combination of steel, gold cap, and solid gold cases.

Price - Probably true, if it's been up for the better part of 6 months the seller probably won't budge. Shame, because most completed sales of that reference in 18K seem to be going for $1100 to maybe $1500? Given the original case and buckle I wouldn't pay more than that.

But pink gold always costs you more than yellow gold.
That price is ok to me if the buckle is 18k, too.

The buckle is gold plated, seems to say "PLAQUE G DEPOSE" on the underside. I agree about the pink gold, though.

Yes, I agree with our esteemed Connoisseur that pink gold carries a premium over yellow gold. Hoi isn't often wrong. It's still available because most collectors who are aware of the extra-special nature of pink gold aren't looking for a watch like this (they want rarer references), while collectors who do consider this watch don't get the extra money for what's a mere 18k Seamaster to them. Given the buckle isn't solid, I'd say $1700 would be a good price. Maybe stretch that to $1800 if you really gotta have it.

Okay guys, I found the listing for mine back when I sold it - and it's a 14.704 caliber 591:

^Nice watch! Is the jury still out on the hand style on the 14701 then? Or is it safe to assume that it should have the black dauphine style?

I hope the OP got it. I thought the exceptional condition was worth the premium. Trouble is, it's easy to forget that the forum members watching this are probably outnumbered several times over by lurkers, and for some of them a couple of hundred or so extra dollars doesn't matter for the right watch. What we tell to one forum member, we also tell to the world at large. He who hesitates......!

The seller only ships to US address but I won't be surprised if the buyer is from the East like Thailand or VietNam.
