Is there any reason why the 1866 with the moonphase module could be considered any less robust than the regular 1861 movement? I do a lot of shooting and usually wear a speedy pro of some description/vintage. I am right handed but wear my watch on my right arm. Any reason to be cautious?

Interesting question and I'm sure some of these real movement experts have the answer. As you know, I also enjoy shooting, usually a .45ACP. These tend to "kick" a little and I have never worn my watches other than a Luminox Navy Seals quartz. However never even a pocket watch, when shooting my .454 Casull ::facepalm2:: Other than a "true beater" I never felt comfortable wearing any of my real time pieces.

I've likely fired 50000 12 gauge rounds at trap and sporting clays with an automatic watch on my arm. It wouldn't be quite as much impact but I've never heard of anyone having trouble with that. I bet hammering or pounding on something would be worse.

50,000 12 Gauge rounds would buy a hell of a nice watch and a Belgium Browning superimposed ;)

I have the Browning. It's a Midas grade, Broadway rib that my dad bought new in 1967 for $1100 Canadian. :)

I shoot Krieghoff's myself and a Silver Seitz..... Watches and guns are both bad habits but I don't buy too many guns. Only to compete with. Changing guns is a lot of work. Changing watches is fun. ;)

By the way, there have been years when I've shot 15000 shells. I know......2 or 3 nice watches in one year........

Just as a matter of interest, how much do you pay for your 12g shells. Works out about £140 per thousand here where I am.

About 200 cdn. That's about 2/3 what you pay. It was about half that when I was shooting that much

The 1866 has some finicky parts in the moon phase and date area. It can suffer from failures there due to issues with end shakes on some of the parts there. I'm not usually one to be concerned about this kind of activity but in this case it might be better to wear another Speedy.

It might be fine, but it depends on how well this one is adjusted in this area.

    Cheers, Al
