Gents,
What do you think of this 168.005 please?
To my rookie eye it looks OK.I'm slightly worried that the minute markers aren't precisely hitting the crease of the pie-pan dial, but I don't think it's a redial. I'm aware that it doesn't have the correct crown.

The cyclops appears to be on the inside of the crystal. Are those onyx hour markers?

Some details make me want to say redial :
  • tilted star below the “constellation“
  • bold painted indices unevenly placed - the space between the index and the black dashes are uneven

There’s also something about the whole case and crown that look unauthentic.

I’ll let the more experts member tune in but this watch looks suspicious to my eye.

I would expect a 168.005 to have "Officially Certified" on the dial. Something doesn't add up.

Some very early Ref. 168.005’s might not have that on the dial.

However, I believe this particular watch is a redial.

Crown is also not correct.

I would move on here.

One more vote for the dial not being kosher; just look at the applied omega logo and the alignment to the cross hair. Or rather, the total lack of alignment.

Thank you gents. I shall pass.
The quest to find a stainless 168.005, with a crosshair pie-pan, date, onyx markers and a sharp case (preferrably in the UK) continues.

You'd think it would be easy, there are loads about. But finding an original one without a blemished dial is really hard!

The search is part of the fun right? The Omega sign and crosshairs are out of whack sadly.

Yes, the hunt is very much a part of collecting. I know exactly how long I've been chasing this one.

A good friend of mine had one and I always admired it. Mike was one of a group of four of us who used to meet monthly at the local planatarium for their "Science" evenings. We stopped for Covid, then in Decemeber 2022 I got a call to say that Pete from the group had died of cancer. He beat it twice. Third time unlucky.
Mike had committed suicide a few days before Pete passed.
So I figured I'd better get in touch with Albert, the fourth member of our group... Albert didn't answer his email, so I went to his house, which I found boarded up. He had died of a short illness earlier in the year.

It was January '23 that I decided to get a pie-pan just like Mike's. I'm still looking for a good one.

Stay in touch with your friends chaps. They are worth more than you realise.
