16700 or 16710?

Hi guys, I am at the stage that I really want to add a Rolex GMT in the collection. Thinking an early 90s 16700 or 16710. Which one should I buy? What is the price difference if both are in same condition? And I am thinking to consolidate my collection a bit...which one should I let go....I also have a Tudor 79220n....and I really want to buy the GMT as my daliy watch.

Any thoughts? Thanks

😀

The 16710 is the more desirable watch at the moment and commands a higher price on the resale market. Both will have the sapphire crystals and tritium dial and hands, but the 16710 will have the independent jump hour hand while the 16700 will instead have the quickest date. The bezel inserts are interchangeable between the two as well as almost all the other parts. Check sold listings on eBay and chrono24 to get some ideas of the price difference but I would expect to pay somewhere around $500-$1000 more for a similar condition 16710 at the moment. My daily wearer at the moment is the 16750, which is the older brother of the 16700, so I prefer the quickest date of the GMT-Master one myself.

Personally, I prefer 16700 as it's the last of the GMT Master and the dial looks cleaner without the II. In addition quickest date is much more convenient for daily wear.

You can also stand to save $$ when the market is undervaluing 16700.

And of course you need photo to help you decide ya.

I’d go with a modern 16710 with the convenience of SuperLuminova.

If going Vintage I prefer no white gold surrounds and plexiglass.

Personally I would go with the best condition possible. They look identical except for the II. Each has its advantages already pointed out and u can decide which one is more useful to u. Although the earlier tritium doesn’t glow anymore, it will develop patina if it hasn’t already, which I find very pleasing. 16700 is slightly cheaper, but it’s actually the much less produced, since everyone wanted the newer II. If u want to make ur life even harder than it is, there is also 16760 to consider. It’s similar to 16710 but beefier case. Good luck. [emoji16]

Thanks guys! I think 16700 it is....I see a really good one with box and paper on lunaroyster for 9500 USD. A bit out of my budget, and I don't really need box and paper to wear daily....

At that price you’re in 4 digit reference territory. Seems high for 16700. But if money is burning a hole in your pocket, spend it how you like...

I’d be looking at something like this as guideline

Or how about a fat lady (16760)? I imagine these will be increasingly collectible going forward.

i believe those will always have a premium as they were a limited run, more if you want box/papers. The market is hot for gmts at the moment in general. Spent the better part of a year looking for that gmt in my profile picture
