Hey everyone. 1st time poster and long time lurker. Thought people might find this interesting.

I got to admit that when I saw this dial (@ an deceased estate sale) I was a bit sceptical about the terrible print (looks like a 4 year old).

But this if this is a redial, I cannot for the life for me understand why someone would go to this degree of trouble to fake a case back and USS applied logo but then print this terrible dial.

I understand that the Norman Morris company did turn out some wonky dials, and these dials were made in the US. I have to get the tools to open the monocase, but is there anyway of checking if this is a redial or just a badly printed custom dial.

Just a poorly refinished dial, happened all the time back in the day, no mystery to it.

All the engravings and USS badge are legit, it’s just that the dial must’ve been stained or damaged so it’s been repainted

Yea this exactly, there’s no value in adding the US Steel markings as they add no value, and the badge is metal so quite a difficult thing to just make up, but yea refinished at some point.
