    Hi there,

to my eye it looks ok, but I am not a specialist esp. with anything related to bracelets.

any thoughts or red flags welcome - and I know those are crappy pics ...

(at the current stage I am just evaluating if the watch is worth the 2 hrs roundtrip - not sending money off the internets - so a personal inspection will follow (if we pass the pre-check ;)))

cheers and as always - THX

piepan dial looks pretty sweet, case looks decent, folded link bracelet...it is a folded link jubilee.

How much? Are you looking to keep or flip? That is the determining factor for a 4hr round trip.

I like what I see (minus the movement pics, but assuming all ok).
Agree with watchknut, how much for this pretty baby? :)

Safe purchase for $1500, though you should plan on a service ($350+ on Rolex)

Bracelet looks pretty short on the 6 o'clock side, ask him if he saved the links

This watch is likely 25 to 30 years old. It has the acrylic crystal which dates it pre 1990, and the bracelet tells me it could be a lot earlier than that. IMO, $1,500.00 is too much for a watch that likely needs a complete overhaul, and likely a bunch of parts! Look for one that has the newer Geneva Jubilee bracelet and sapphire crystal. I have a suspicion that either the bezel or the bracelet are not original to the watch. And from the factory, the Rolesor (Steel and gold) Rolex came with a gold crown not a steel one. This one likely has the earlier 2035 caliber movement in it, not the later 2135. Probably hold your fire until a better deal comes along!

You can get them supercheap on ebay if you're OK with aftermarket ones. If not, a good seller/jeweler from Orlando has jubilee links for about $50/per. Good people. I'll PM you his info should you get to that point.

I defer to the member from up north with superior knowledge !

Just out of curiosity what do you think a complete overhaul would cost someone who cannot DYI?

Also thought 2135 was a smaller movement, my 1601 has a 1570 circa 1970 (says hi)

It is a 1601 non-quickset, so pre 1980, and with the folded links, probably early to mid-1970s

Would buy all day long at $1500. Budget $350 for basic service.

    Hi canuck,

Just a Q: are you Saying the crown on this watch should be YG? Even if the watch is SS/WG?
    Thx Alfred

$1500 for a nice 1601 Datejust with a more uncommon blue dial seems like a good deal to me. The crown looks fine since the bezel is white gold. It wouldn't make sense to have a yellow gold crown where the rest of the watch is silver colored...

Am I the only one who took the bezel as being yellow gold? Sure looks it to me. If it is white gold, then the white crown is correct. $1,500.00 (US) is too much in my view. $1,500.00 (Cdn) is also too much for a watch that is about 30 plus years old!

    From a UK perspective $ 1500 is a snip - Buy it - That's cheap

Very understated, but also incredibly tough, stylish watches,...... with a very gentle polish - the white gold will look terrific

A good service, ( local watchmaker ), will put it back in uninterrupted running for another 30 years

    1982 version

I would have no problems with the 1500 usd for this watch, in fact i would call it a good buy.

The 1601 used either the 1565 or 1575, not the smaller ladies movements that Canuck suggested. Note that even though yours is marked 1570, it's a 1575. Every 1575 I've ever worked on had a 1570 marking on the bridge for the automatic. But all Rolex date movements end in the digit 5, so it is actually a 1575.

I agree that $1500 for this is a good buy, even knowing it needs a full service and may require parts. The bezel is white gold, but the rhodium has worn off, so it looks slightly more yellow than it should. My wife's 1603 looks similar - I have a steel bezel for it that at some point I will put on as she would prefer that.

The bezel was in better shape when I took this - looks more yellow now - she is hard on watches!

    Cheers, Al

The case looks unmolested. I probably would like to see the movement though.
