    Hi there!

I’ve red that the datedisc for 1601 have open 6 or closed 6 but a hooked seven... then I’ve red that all 1601 from 60´s to 80´ should have an open 6, if not the datedisc has been changed during service...

does someone have an idea of what is the truth?

    thanks :)

From memory, the 6 and 16 are usually open but 26 can be a closed 6 for some reason (not always). My 1972 has open 6's on 6 and 16 and flat-top 3, I'd need to go to the house and click it round and round to check the '7' (and 26) - and it could of course have been replaced at some point.

No hard numbers with Rolex but roughly early 70s to early 80s would have open 6s but early and later date windows have different colors. However even service wheels can also have open 6s - some watchmakers just used what they had on the bench
Attach pics if you have a question about a specific watch

It seems that there is many known variations... I guess the best is to get an open 6, no doubt if it is a variation or a service disc

Hooked 7 is definitely incorrect for a 1980

You will need to give us the serial number if you want informed opinions. It is somewhat controversial, but many people believe that open 6 date-wheels were used in a certain range, with closed 6 date wheels both before and after. Also, service replacement date wheels look perfect.

I don’t have the serial number yet, but the seller says it is from 1969, not sure if it helps

In my opinion, if it is truly from 1969, it should probably have an open-6. However, I've seen quite a few date-wheels from a bit earlier, in mid-60s with closed 6s, and we don't know if the 1969 estimate is accurate. It's so much better to have photos of the serial.

Indeed I guess it should have an open 6.
Do you thinks the asking price should be affected by that?

I wouldn't put a premium on correct date disc. It's a far too common model and the date disc alone doesn't guarantee that everything else is untouched.

hooked 7's are early, more like 60's and very early 70's. Open 6, 9, 16, 29, but closed 26 are typical 70's. I recently sold 2 pieces (1601 & 1625) manufactured within a year of each other by serial number with identical date discs. Whilst nice to know they are original, on a Datejust, it's not that important.
