Hello, I have been offered this Jedi from a vintage car collector here in Sweden. He claims it's valued - and insured - at $2000. I made some research and it seems that this is a rarer model than the other 70s Seamasters fitted with a cal 861. However it look sa bit beat up to me and the dial shows some staining. To me the valuation seems a bit high. Any comments appreciated. /Ed
I can’t comment on value. I’ve never seen one of these with a white dial, but a quick search found a thread on one: https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-seamaster-145-024.24558/ The main hands on the one you’re considering are clearly different — don’t know if they are replacements or an alternate version, but it’s something to investigate before buying. Also, it will need a service. Notice how the 12 hour counter hasn’t reset to 0. This is a common problem and indicative that service is needed.
There are three dials of the 145.024 “Jedi” reference. The most common grey, second the white/silver like you have been offered, and then a ultra rare blue dial. As the OP’s watch seems to have seen some heavy use, with its own issues and non original bracelet, i think their asking too much for it. But if the price is right, why not. The case of a Jedi is not so easily rebrushed as it is very thin especially around the lugs. But maybe this could do with a light brush to make it look nicer. But if the dial has marks on it, then these are not easily fixed at all. There are much nicer ones out there. My watchmaker has this one for sale, asking 2650€ (maybe negotiable), PM me if you want to get his contacts.
Valuation is probably ok if you consider what the individual parts would sell for but this Jedi looks tired. Good white dials are fetching $3-$3.5k at the moment.
Always wise to clean the watch back before opening the case. That’s a lot of gunk wanting to get inside the movement
I think this is a very cool reference. It wears well, is relatively thin, and has good wrist presence. Plus you can’t beat the 861 movement. Mine was apparently refinished at some point with a fine circular brushing, but it looks great to me —- like the circularly brushed Flightmasters.
