Hey guys. I'm looking at this 145.022 from 1969 it has straight writing case back which is a bit rare and is all original parts from original owner. Dot next to 90 bezel. What do you think of it? The dial has a greenish patina and the hands are brownish but I still like it. Does that detract from the value? Any opinions on what a good price would be? Thanks very much. Josh
Speedmaster 101 is your friend http://speedmaster101.com/ From your 1 picture looks in good shape. If you want a full analyses from the crew you need to supply more inside and out photos.
As mentioned, Speedmaster 101 should get you an idea. Hard to tell since we can't see the sides/back/close-ups, but it appears to be correct. I wouldn't think that the lume color difference would too negatively affect the value.
I am confident that the watch is all original and the movement is in good condition. It comes from a reputable source. Given this info what do you think of a 5k US price tag ?
According to speedmaster 101: 145.022-69SW: Running condition - $3000 Good condition - $4900 Collector condition - $6900 As only you have seen this watch, then it has to be left to you. I would want to know the service history - by whom, what was done exactly, if movement parts or any others were replaced, etc. before determining it "collector" grade. But if you do deem it collector grade, then yeah $5000 would be a good price. If there are other question marks surrounding its history, then perhaps $5000 becomes closer to a normal price.
Do note that speedmaster101 is for head only. If that is the original bracelet and endlinks, the price becomes significantly more attractive.
According to Moonwatch Only, it would have originally had a clasp/end-link combo of 1039/516, 1116/575 (its not), 1175/640, or 1171/633. I am fairly certain that is a 1171/633, which is the later bracelet produced from 1970-1982. If it's original, I would expect the movement serial number to be on the higher end of the 26555XXX - 27719XXX range. That isn't necessarily law, and others may disagree with that, but typically it seems more likely that an earlier serial number would have had one of the other bracelets, as the 1171/633 only began to be produced in the mid/later end of the -69 SW run.
That is way to low for a straight writing. They are produced during 1971, serial should be between 31xxxx and 32xxxx.
It's a nice looking watch. Assuming everything is correct (including movement number), $5,000 does not seem completely unreasonable. I don't think it's a great bargain though.
Wow. 100% my bad. I totally typed the wrong thing in front of me and don't know how I let that slip. You're totally right. OP, please disregard those numbers there.
Here are some additional pictures. Could i get some feedback on the movement. I'm told it is likely all original. If everything on the watch is original (aside from bracelet) does that make it collector grade? So the conclusion is that 5k is an ok deal but not a great one?
At a quick glance, those are modern 633 endlinks, there are scratches around the bottom of the lugs and it looks to have had at least one polish in its time. It can't be collector grade.
I think 5k is an OK deal for it, the bezel's really nice and that'll soon be worth quite a bit on its own. The watch looks original (obviously the bracelet excepted) but I wouldn't say it's collector grade, but very good for sure.
